I've been competing in IDPA with my Model 66. I'm looking for K-frame grips without finger grooves. I just hate finger grooves, as they are never in the right place for my hand.

I have medium sized hands, so I don't want a grip that is too large. I'm currently using a Miculek grip that I've sanded down, but I still think it isn't quite right.

Any suggestions? Most everything I've found has finger grooves.

pachmayr grips.................

current production:

"compac" or "compac professional"

discontinued....search on ebay or.............

"presentation" small size...........i have these on my model 64 and they fit my medium hands very well.

Look at Ahrends. If you don't find something you like then I will be surprised. I like his Tactical Smooth front grips. The Pachmayr Gripper is just about the same finger spacing as his. The Altamont finger grooves use too big of a top finger groove and make the other two fit wrong in my hand. Ahrends will also make any of the square butt grips in a sq to round conversion. I keep checking the mail box for my latest from him.

+1 for the Pachmyer compacts and compact professionals!

I have a pair of Ahrends boot grips on my 3" 65. I prefer them to his tactical grips because the boot grips have a more rounded front strap. I also have medium-sized hands. The Ahrends grips fill my hands without being bulky; very comfortable and gives good control. I haven't had any issues using a speedloader. They're cut to the bottom of the grip frame, but if you want a longer grip I believe his retro banana grip has the same contours. He has other varieties of non-finger-groove grips, too.

Here's a picture of my 65 with the Ahrends grips:

If you're interested in the Pachmayr Compac Pro (the one with the exposed backstrap), send me a PM; I have one in new condition that I might be willing to part with.

One good wood grip is the Hogue Mono-Grip.
The mounting system is the most solid on any grip and totally prevents shifting.
They're available in a number of fancy hard woods.

They're available with a number of custom options, like fancy contrasting grip caps, checkering, AND without finger grooves.
Prices are lower than most other wood grips.

I've got a couple Hogues for N-frames and I found them to be just a bit too big for my hand. So I'm concerned that their K-frame grips would also be too big for me.

I do a bit of coaching with handgun newbies, mostly women and kids, and the Pachmayr grips are very popular, especially with the hotter loads. I used the Compac Pro for years, but have lately gravitated to the slightly larger version with the covered backstrap. I also have medium-sized hands and these fit my RB Smiths very well.

I use Spegels (full size, not the boot grips) minus the finger grooves.

Sometimes I make do with Hogue nylon mono grips on a spare or utility gun--only finger groove stocks I can abide.

I have yet to find a finger groove grip to fit my medium sized hands. I have had good results with Pacmayr Presentation Grips on K frames. I also use Ahrends Smooth Tactical Conversion grips on my round butt S&W K and N frames in lieu of those ugly finger grooved goodyears.......

Try a set of Ahrends retro banana grips! IMHO there are none better than Ahrends grips when considering fit, finish, feel and finance (The 4 F's of grip buying)! I have a new set of retro banana grips (smooth and comfortable) on my model 325 that look and feel phenomenal, and the fit is like they are vacuum sealed on the frame. The banana grips are the same as the retro combat grips, but without the finger grooves.

I never like finger grooves in anything until I tried these finger groove combat (RB) grips ordered straight off the S&W website store. I wasn't sure about them at first. However, I shoot full house .357 magnums with no problem; they spread the recoil evenly and have incredible control. They are the best grips I have ever used on a revolver. They fit my hand like they were custom made for them. However, everyone's hands are different, so that's probably not a fair assessment. You will rarely find someone not happy with Ahrend's though.
