I have owned these grips for 30+ years.... I just don't know where I got them... They fit my model 19-4 nicely. Are these made by (sold by?) S&W or are they aftermarket? Thanks!
I have a set of target, w/o thumb-rest, that mimics the checkering pattern. They are unmarked except "MADE IN ITALY" stamped insede the right stock and a relief space for the mainspring screw routed inside both stocks. They have been on my Mod. 28-2 since 1964.
I believe they were made by SILE, which is not in business anymore. They were a popular gunstock/grip maker back in the 60's,70's,80's. Not sure when they went out of business.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the input. Upon closer inspection, they do have a very faint stamping inside one panel that says "Made in Italy". While my grips are very similar to the ones DWFAN posted, there a subtle differences. Were Siles made in Italy, or are these knockoffs?
Right McGrew, your grips have a border around the checkering that the Siles don't. I think that yours and mine are knockoffs. My revolver came into my possession used during the first year of its existence.
Siles Distributors were in New York. I don't know if they imported whatever they distributed.
SILE IS STILL IN BUSINESS IN ITALY. I SAW THEM AT THE SHOTSHOW 3 YEARS AGO. THEY HAD GREAT GRIPS FOR THE EUROPEAN PISTOLS , HAMMERLI AND SUCH. BUT NO IMPORTER INTO THE US. JP
I never expected to ID those grips that described above.
I have a set of rubber stocks for a round butt j frame that were identified as Siles 25 years ago, without manufacturers mark, but "made in Italy" molded inside both.
