K-frame Hand Question

I have a model 14-4 from 1980 with 3T’s, S/N 83Kxxxx. I prefer a smooth semi-combat trigger so I ordered a trigger and hammer listed as from a 19-5, thinking they would drop right in. I noticed the hand on the “new” trigger assembly has 3 pins in it compared to the 2 pins in the “old” hand. I tried installing both the “new” trigger assembly and hammer in the 14-4 anyway – the action wouldn’t function in either SA or DA mode, not reaching full cock on the sear before coming to the end of travel. I reinstalled the “old” hammer & trigger and the action works fine.

Lots of questions: Was there a change to the frame at the 19-5 change that would cause this? To find a trigger assembly that will work in my 14-4, do I just look for one with a 2-pin hand (and the smooth trigger face)? Can you point me to a supplier that might have what I need? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

You might try swapping the 2 pin hand to the new trigger and see how that goes. These things can be hard to diagnose long distance.

Since your hand is what interacts with the cylinder (extractor) pads, I would install your hand on the 19-5 trigger. That's the hand your revolver knows.

Thanks for your replies. I already returned the “new” (from a 19-5) trigger / hand assembly and hammer for a refund. I would prefer to keep the “old” hand on the “old” trigger to preserve originality, so I didn’t want to move the “old” hand to the “new” trigger. I did cycle the “new” trigger assembly without either hammer installed, and it rotated the cylinder correctly without binding and the cylinder stop dropped into a notch. I will keep looking for a smooth trigger assembly that has a 2-pin hand. I installed one in a K-22 a few years back without any trouble. I guess I got lucky.
