Hello,

I'm new to the forums, and I'm hoping that I came to the right place. I have a Model 19-3 K Frame .357 Magnum with a 6" barrel. I personally like the look of a full frame barrel, instead of what I have. This gun was handed down to me (for a mere $800) from my dad, it's only been fired a handful of times and is immaculate. I will never sell it, so I don't care that changing things may lower the value.

Simple question: Is there a way to put a full lugged barrel on my frame? If so what barrel?

A much better (less expensive) alternative would be to keep your M19 and purchase an entire S&W 586 if you like the full lug look.

You already have $800 in the gun and at 100% condition the current Blue Book of Gun Values lists a M19 with all options (TT, TH, WO sights) at about $710.

There is/was one specific K frame with a full underlug (I presume this is what you mean by "full frame") barrel, the model 14-5 to -7. There were a few on the market recently, mostly FL law enforcement agency surplus guns, but these have mostly gone away.

Don't know if the barrels were threaded the same as a model 19 but putting a Wanted to Buy ad here and watching online might find you one. It will likely be less expensive to find a nice 580/680 series gun than to go this route as noted above. Good luck in your search.

The problem you will face is that the K frames where never commercially made with a full lugged barrel so there's no readily available barrel on the used or new market to simply swap into your Model 19.

The L frames had full lugged barrels but the dimensions of the frames are different so a direct swap isn't an option.

With enough money you can probably get a custom barrel made however it will probably be significantly less expensive to simply buy a 586 or 686 L frame .357 mag with full lug.
