Does anyone make rubber grips for a 66 K frame square butt.

NOT Hogue,
NOT finger groove.

I wonder if the new Pachys are as bad as I've read?

I believe Pachmayr Presentation grips are what you're looking for.
For the N-frame they make 2 versions - the larger version is 3/16" longer than the smaller version.
I think they only make 1 version for K-frames. They aren't great looking, but they are approximately the same size and shape as the S&W target grips.

I'm irritated cuz hogue makes non finger groove K frame ones for round butt, but not square butt. I'd rather not have the finger grooves. Maybe some day I'll grind them down.....

No, they're thinner and trimmer and feel a LOT better in the hand.
Look for a good pair of the older two-panel style.

Pachmayr Presentation square butt grips came in small SK-S and large SK-L stock numbers. Smalls are split in the front with a solid backstrap. Usually you can find a pair on Ebay for around $20 so if you don't like them you are not out much. Make sure you buy a pair that has the screw included.

I wear an XL glove and really dislike the presentation grips from Pach. Read: the newer one piece, anyway. Out of the packaging the grip screw was way too long and poked out the opposite side at least 3/16" when fully tightened down. Emailed them and they sent out a replacement....that's exactly the same length. So I bought one the correct length through Grainger. Even after all that, I'm still not a fan of the grips.

So I bought the nylon hogue grips with the intention of sanding down the finger grooves, and I might just do that today.

Look for Vintage Mershon Imperial grips

As my title says, I think what you are looking for is the old Mershon Imperial Grip.
Mershon Company of Los Angeles California sued Frank A. Pachmayr for trademark infringement and unfair competition in 1954 or so, lost and appealed in March 1955, lost again and then Pachmayr (dba Pachmayr Gun Works) acquired Mershon and the name was gone forever.

The pictures attached show the Mershon on my Model 65, and I tell you for fact...tight fitting, very comfortable, tames the full house maggies, much better accuracy (for me) than the original service stocks.

The info molded inside the both panels is " S & W K - Small" and when the 2 panels are assembled tight the butt mold information shows " US Pat. No. 3,678,084 Imperial Grip" on right panel, " by Mershon Company Los Angeles Calif. Made in USA" on left panel. The special screw does not protrude the opposite side.

Mine came to me on a 38 WWII Victory, and I have spent several years hunting down the correct smooth walnut service stocks along with a lanyard loop, swivel and pin but have really been pleasantly surprised at the comfort, control and use of these Mershon on the Model 65.
