K frame target grip question

I bought some original S&W target grips for a 686 that I bought not to long ago. I really wish people wouldn't misplace the original grips all the time, but I digress....
Anyway, I have a couple of pairs now. Neither seem to match that well side to side as they are different in color.
But one pair has no metal button on the inside. Would this be a late pair, or an early pair? My 686 was built around 1991.
Even my oldest Smith (1976 29-2) has that metal button.

They ditched the button I think around 1986. The grips with no button would be newer and more "correct" but either pair would look great. If you don't like either you can always send one my way!

It's good to know they are late grips. But I have had a 1990 586 and it had those metal buttons. I have never seen this type before.
