Hello All,

Saw someone tapping into the collective knowledge of this forum asking for grip identification and I figured I'd do the same thing.

Picked up these sets of grips a while back and I've been wondering about them. All I know is that one set fits a round butt K/L frame and the other fits a square butt K frame. I'm not sure of what type of wood they're made from or if they're actual S&W grips or knockoffs.

Any help educating me on these grips would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Actually the top set is factory original sw combat grips but the wood is morado wood not goncalo alves. The bottom set is Thailand knock off combat grips in what looks like cocbolo.

Actually, the quality of some of the stocks I've seen from Thailand is darned good. I have a set from there that are actually so much better in terms of fit and finish that they appear to be copies because they look TOO good! I'm not saying that all knockoffs are better as most are not but some sure are.

Rd butt Combats have been refinished and the factory gloss finish is removed. They originally looked like the backside.

The sq butts look just like factory finger groove grips (but the lack of washers on the back and fine detail in the medallions also give them away); both copies of those from the early full lug K frame .22, .32, & .38. And the sharpness of the finger groove peaks between fingers has been sanded rounder.

Not true. The factory k/L round butt combats there are factory morado combats from early to mid 90s. They came in duller satin type finish not the more glossy earlier goncalo alves combats. They are 100 percent original .

Eric,

I agree, Smith did, but those aren't them. Look at the backs, you don't see untouched grips that don't match front to back. They don't match at all. And the medallions are clones.

The real McKoys. Not real clear, but study the medallions:

Good info guys! You're touching on my thoughts about the RB grips. Searching around online I have yet to find a set that don't have the glossy finish which is why I wonder if they're the real deal.
