For me, I would go with the 66 and a 4" barrel. I started my career as a law enforcement ranger in the National Park Service with a 686. A fellow ranger let me shoot his 66 and there was no going back for me. I found the 66 a very natural pointer and I shot it much better than my 686. I ended up selling the 686. We later transitioned to the Sig p220 in 45 acp. I'm retired from the Park Service now and I still have both of my duty weapons (personal purchases). While I ccw both, I find I carry my Model 66-4 a lot more than I do the Sig, particularly when I go on hikes in wild country.
