I'm looking at a pre-17, s/n K 150xxx with matching gold box, non original stocks. Should this have diamond magnas with silver washer or black washer? Is $600.00 a fair price or not?

The original Magna stocks would have black washers and the serial number would be stamped on the back of the right panel. If it was ordered with target stocks, they'd have diamonds and black washers, but no serial number on the back. $600 sounds like a decent price, considering the gold box is worth about $100 in nice shape. If it comes with a correct sight adjustment tool, it's an even better deal.

Sounds like a good deal to me. As mentioned earlier, the box itself is easily $100+, and these days $500 for a 95% K-22 ain't bad...

Good Deal.....like others have said the box is worth over $100 (there is one on ebay at $155 right now) and the gun sounds like it is worth the money on its own....too bad it didnt at least have correct vintage stocks on it.....still a deal

A 95% gun won't excite collectors. The box is a big plus... if the gun is collector grade. To me $600 is the very top of the range. You decide how much you like it.

You are wrong in saying no collector wants a 95% gun. There a lot of people starting out and that is what fits their budget.

John, you are right that there are different "levels" of collectors and collections. Compared to what I've seen on here my S&W's are a mere "accumulation" I'd be proud to have 95% condition on what I have but can't afford to go "high end". I think SaxonPig is giving you an honest perspective from someone on the high end side of Smith collecting.

With the box and if original grips, I'd do it.
