K22 issue, smith recommendation needed

I have a 4 screw K22, bought it years ago with the original box, gun looked just about perfect but you could tell it had been opened up a few times and I later realized why. It has light strikes on double action and in single action the hammer will release and hang. I've tried some replacement main springs, from Numrich and Wolf but neither have helped, if I had to guess it seems as if there's some kind of drag on the hammer but it's beyond what my skills can diagnose.

I's really like to be able to shoot and enjoy the piece, wondering if anyone might know what the issue could be or recommend a gunsmith that knows these revolvers and could help get up and running.

You may wish to consider Clark Custom Guns in Princeton, LA. They recently did an action job on my Model 18. I was very pleased and the price was reasonable. They also perform remedial work on Smith & Wesson revolvers.

Very nice people to deal with.

I have seen, on rare occasions, where the sideplate caused pressure on the hammer. I noticed that the sideplate screws were loose and when I tightened them, the function of the revolver was unreliable. The hammer should give some indication of where the unwanted contact is taking place.

I see you are in Richmond. Sandy Garrett at Northern VA Gun Works (his shop is in Springfield). If you can swing it, drive it up there and speak to him directly. I've had him do several repairs and tune ups over the years, outstanding work and reasonable. He is on the grouchy side but his work is impeccable, he knows Smith revolvers.

A bit more of a drive but Andy Horvath is the only other person I let work on my S&W revolvers. Diagonal Road Gun Shop. He is an old timer, no website, no email, no text. Phone call or snail mail. But, his word is gold. If he says he can do it, he does it.
