Kel Tec PF-9 ***UPDATE***

The one I bought on GB had a "buy it now" of $249 NIB. So, I figured I would give it a try. I am carrying my Glock 33 in my front pocket as a back up. Other than pulling my trousers down,it was & is perfect.Recoil shouldn't be a problem. The .357 Sig round out of the small Glock is ...well..... snappy. ;)

The G33 may just slide over into a "primary" duty position if the Kel Tec works out as a pocket gun.

I had a P32 for a long time & it functioned flawlessly w/ any ammo I fed it. I just wanted something more potent. If you ever get down to using your 2nd gun,it needs to stop the action immediately!!

What is "fluff & buff"?

I guess I really am an old throwback. I expect even an inexpensive gun to be ready to carry and reliable out of the box, without needing fluff-and-buff work by me. I'm financially unable to buy guns anymore, but if I could I'd expect weapons I didn't have to work on myself in order to be confident they'd save my posterior. Charge a little more and polish the damn feed ramp at the factory!

I had a p32 briefly. No malfunctions, no problems, decent little piece, except that it didn't fit my hand at all and I couldn't shoot it accurately.

I wish you the best of luck. I also have the P-32 and it a great little shooter. I'll say that I hope your PF-9 has a better trigger than my P-32. That is my only negative comment on the KelTeks.

My wife and I started on PF9's. Didn't take us long to move on. I am of the mindset that you should practice, practice, practice with your SD gun. And doing so with the PF9 hurt my hand and my wife hated it for that fact as well. So I moved on to the M&P 45 then to the M&P40c and she went to the M&P Shield. But we've since moved to other guns as well. She decided to go with a full size 1911 (my SR1911) and I have the Springfield Armory XDs45 and a Ruger LCP (in my back pocket). I sometimes carry my SR1911 Commander I had to buy after my wife confiscated my other SR1911.

Anyway, back to the PF9. It was okay for us. I just wasn't fun to shoot and we tended to not shoot a lot. And that is not wise. I feel it is wise to be very proficient with your self defense firearms and that takes lots of practice. If you aren't going to practice with it, don't carry it. That's my opinion.

The PF-9 is a tiny, lightweight 9mm handgun. What are people thinking when they say that it has a lot of recoil? What were you expecting? Of course a steel 1911 will be more comfortable to shoot. But a 1911 won't disappear in a front pocket like a PF-9 or other small gun. It's called a trade off.

I have a PF9 and my FIL has a P11. I like the PF9 a lot better. Better trigger, decent sights, goes bang when I pull the trigger. Snappy, but not uncontrollable. You do need to hang on to it when you shoot it. I also have a Shield 9. The shield is almost identical in size. Maybe just a tiny fraction larger. The Shield feels like it weighs twice as much. Yes, the shield is more comfortable to shoot and has a better trigger than the Kel-Tec. Cost quite a bit more, too.

Update!

I just bought one on Gunbroker. Does anyone here have one? Opinions? My plan is to make it a back up pistol at work etc.

It arrived a few days ago & I had a chance to take it for a test drive.

It weighs in at just over 17 oz loaded (12oz empty) and fits nicely in any pants pocket holster that I tried. It doesn't "print" significantly. I opted to carry it all weekend in a moderately priced Don Hume IWB holster w/ a spare mag in a Don Hume holder & found it very comfortable. At 7 + 1 rounds of Federal 9mm 124 gr. Expanding FMJ w/ an extra 7 rd mag, this should handle any situation at combat ranges. As the critics have noted, it does have a snappy recoil even w/ Winchester White Box FMJ. (I added the Hogue Handall Jrs!) But, it is not the terror that some make it out to be IMHO. This is a carry pistol. You are probably not going to win any Bullseye matches with it.:) I'm glad I got it and ,for the money, couldn't be more pleased!!

All the best,
Charles

I had one. Worked fine. I did not care for the aggressive grip texture, Tore my hand up and I shoot a lot. I put a piece of cut inner tube on it and was much nicer.

I like the looks of them but it's not a Kahr PM9 or a Shield,

Then the fankenbolt came out which holds everything together, KT sent me a new bolt, extractor, firing pin and spring. Loc tite the bolt(screw) and worked fine. Sold it for something else.

I had a PF-9 for a few months. Overall it was reliable (didn't like Magtech ammo for some reason), but I always equated its recoil to that of getting kicked by a P.O.'d army mule. I put a Hogue grip on it, fluff and buffed all the polymer seams, etc. I know many people say a PF-9 is a carry a lot - shoot a little firearm, but I think you still need to practice some. I just really didn't enjoy shooting it. I can shoot my 357 or my 40 S&W handguns and not cringe at the thought, so I bought a Beretta Nano, sold the PF-9 and have never looked back. All that said, I hope you enjoy yours and have great luck with it.

OK, ok, one is over twice the cost of the other, but isn't your life worth over twice that of the bad guy?

Glad you like yours.

Kel Tec does NOT recommend dry firing. The firing pin has a notch in it and the bolt (Frankenbolt) that holds the extractor fits into that notch. dry firing can pien that bolt till it binds the firing pin.
