Ken Burns “Hemingway” on PBS tonight

I like Hemingway.....

... a LOT!. I think the ending to the 'Snows of Kilimanjaro' is up there with the finest writing in the English language.

A book was posthumously published, 'Islands In The Stream' that is my favorite book of all. It's in three parts and the last part would make a great action movie all on it's own. They made a good version with George C. Scott, but Hollywood completely truncated the end to make a social statement that was suitable to them. I hope somebody makes a better version of the ending, it would go down in the annals of action movies.

I watched it and liked it. Ken Burns has a talent for making history come alive. I am currently watching his documentary on Baseball, and it is also excellent. I have only seen parts of his film on the Civil War, but from what I understand he worked with Shelby Foote, who was a great historian and Southern writer.

I am glad to see that PBS still presents history shows, as A&E and The History Channel seem more focused on reality and sensational programing rather than arts, entertainment, and history. Sure there might be some bias here and there, but critical thinking and debate is good for the mind.
