Went to my LGS today. Had several things to get done. First, I had to get a gun shipped off as part of a trade I have going with another member. Second, I needed to order my new gun. Good news is they have it in stock, so it shouldn't be long until it's in my grubby little paws. Then, I had him look for another gun I want to order. No dice, but he'll keep looking. Then, he had some mags he'd found for the Star PD I had bought from him a while ago. No charge, just gave them to me. Finally, I had him pull this old piece out of the case and start the paperwork. Ruger Redhawk in .44 Magnum. I just couldn't resist. Definitely need to change the grips. Pretty prominent turn line, but the rest is good. Locks up well and the trigger is nice. Spring might be a little weak, we'll see how she lights 'em off. On consignment from the son of the original owner. Apparently he bought it for EDC in Alaska. Doesn't look to have spent a whole lot of time in a holster, so I'd bet he got tired of having this cannon on his hip. Since I took up so much of Terry's time, I gave him a pocketknife which he promptly cut himself with and then put in his pocket. Just like I do.:D

Those Houge grips are kind of ugly, but they are pretty comfortably and do work well on reducing the felt recoil. My SRH came with the same grip, and I changed them out for the wood inlay rubber grip. Although the wood/rubber looked nicer, after shooting it for a while I put the uggs back on. Oh yeah, and I wish my SRH was blued! :D

The Hogues on mine are an open backstrap model, and pretty narrow at the back. I'll look and see what's available. I might have some custom grips made. I'm kind of a grip junkie. And if you can find them, the .44 Special is your friend! And I'd mostly shoot this one instead.
