This caught my eye at the pawn shop and went home with me for $30.00. It is in excellent shape with the case..It is marked Kershaw Oregon USA by Kai Japan. From surfing looks like these are the older model and some what vintage? Any body have one and know more about this model?

Try the question on some of the internet knife & blade forums, or the Kershaw web page. They would probably be more informed than the S&W guys here. Ed.

Older model what? 1980 Pakistan? For me a true vintage knife would come out of the collection of a WW2 vet. For them a modern repo of a Pakistan knife would be funny. Japan gets their iron from the Philippines and they usually do not use brass bolsters. Brass tends to tarnish and anything stainless was a popular vintage material because it did not tarnish. Looks like they are selling for a nice price on Ebay. Of course Case was known for their chrome vanadium steel. Sharper then the nickle used to make stainless. Parker imported some Kai knifes. They maybe considered vintage. These were imported by Kershaw so they could not be that old. The Taylor family owns the smith and wesson knife name. I was moving a fair amount of their knives at one time. They bought some of the names like Old Timer and Uncle Henry when Camillus when out of business.

I own one of those, and the fixed blade version too. The folder will bring big money here, for a knife. Mine was a gift years ago, I have no idea what it originally sold for.

Upper right in the photo, next to the Kershaw Amphibian.

This line up from Kershaw is a premium grade knife made for Kershaw in Kai Japan and they used AUS8 steel. AUS 8 sharpens well and holds its edge very well. Your 1050 lock up is also very solid. Kershaw also offered a lifetime warranty on this series of cutlery which you do NOT see very often on anything anymore.

There were several models in the line up, including 2 straight blades and at least 2 folders.

These knives sold retail for just under $200.00. So at $30.00 you certainly got a bargain on that one. I have 4 of the 1050's, a 1040 and 3 of the 1030 straight blades.......Kind of like 3rd gen Smiths.....I cannot seem to walk away from them!!

Randy

(One of my 1050's filed dressed 5 deer before I needed to touch up the blade.)
