This past weekend my brother in law and I traveled to Baudette, Mn to close up the father in laws place and bring him back to the Twin Cities. Soon he will be off to Phoenix for the winter. To fill some slack time we drove to a nearby firing range (sand pit) for some unsupervised exercise of our RKBA.

As usual, we thinned the resident pumpkin population...

We were fairly well armed

I finally got to try out my Model 10 3" project gun

I brought my 3" Model 64 just in case the 10 had issues

The end result of our shooting session, this pumpkin won't be bothering anyone...

My lone pumpkin has a date with me at the range tomorrow. I hear they are pretty dull unless you fill them with water first. So I'll add a gallon or two of water, and a nice 165-grain Pow-R-Ball 45ACP load. Should be messy!

THERE'S JUST NO POINT.....

...in talking to a "bad" pumpkin. When they go bad, there's no reasoning with them. I have Never heard of a "bad" pumpkin
being rehabilitated by anything but lead or a shovel. You'll
usually need both. Thanks for thinning 'em out a little. TACC1

I think punkins have been successfully rehabilitated by elephants at the local zoo. Takes a few days, but they come out nothing like they went in, and quite environmentally friendly too.

I wanna hear about the Model 10 project. Pumpkins, shumpkins, I like guns!

Sure thing...
I scored this forlorn 10-8 on the cheap off a Gunbroker auction. When I opened the gun up it was clear that some kitchen table 'smithing had been performed with less than satisfactory results. Occasionally it would lock up in double action because the cylinder stop wouldn't disengage.

I installed a nice used .265 grooved trigger, fitted a new cylinder stop, replaced the cut down rebound spring, butchered main spring and twisted hammer block. Once everything was working as it should I had a local gunsmith replace the boogered up orange insert front sight and had it reblued. I also added a nice set of Ahrends retro "bananna" grips in Moradillo to finish things off.

after...

I am a little disappointed in the quality of the bluing job and may have it refinished again at some point, for now I can live with it. I'm very pleased with how it shoots. The sights are right on with my 158gr LSWC handloads and it never missed a beat firing 250 rounds.

I should add that I could have purchased a really nice 3" Model 10 for what's tied up in this one but I wouldn't have learned as much...
