Killing cool

I'm an old (56) fat white guy, the Anti-Cool. While visiting my acupuncturist I commented to a young Mexican guy (he spoke no English, I did the math) that I liked his half-orange Nike springy heeled sneakers. He said something like "Que?" I pointed at his shoes and said "Bueno".

He turned a color that I think is called "verde" in Spanish. I know he burned the shoes later.

There is a guy who shows up at the Moon Bar pretty regularly, some kind of demi-celebrity craft cocktail bartender, who has a pair of those bright orange Nikes, and a pair of lime green ones.

I checked to see if I had anything that could keep pace. Sorry, all my shoes are black or brown or gray.

I know I'm not cool. I have a cool bicycle, a Surly Pugsley, and I'm probably not cool enough to ride it. Somebody much cooler is going to come along and I'm gonna feel like I should give him the bike. Not gonna do it, though.

My last two remaining handguns are S&W revolvers in .38 Special. There's a pretty fair number of people here who see the coolness in that, but very few who are under 50.

Fortunately my son, who is 47, is raising his three boys to believe that revolvers are just cool as hell.

My best friend is 56 (I'm 58), his daughter is 20. A couple years ago we were shooting together once a month. The daughter asks for me to bring my 45 ACP revolver for her to shoot at the next session. I brought the 625, thinking she likes the trigger. What she was after was the 1917, because real revolvers are blue or nickel, not stainless. (I think she was 40 years old when she was born!) Ivan

Cool.....What is cool and who started saying cool....I always thought it was Fonzie on Happy Days not sure about that...That expletive has lasted trough a couple on generations....I guess you could say..."COOL is Cool..What ever it means....

Having been officially anointed an old fart this year, (65), I can remember when white baseball and football shoes were considered radical. Accordingly, I own double the number of revolvers than autos. Carrying my J frame as I type.

When in HS is the early '70s, I wore my hair fairly short. Everyone else worn theirs long. It was an anti establishment thing to do back then, the long hair that is.
Now all the young Cool Cat wannabes go about with a shaved head, girls included. I think its the anti establishment thing again.
Many in the older set with thinning hair just shave their heads clean for convenience. Now that makes sense. Got a couple friends that do so. Me... still cursed with hair, but keep it just a tad longer than before. Never been one to go along with the crowd.

I'm amazed that the word "cool" is still used, and still means the same thing. I know it was used in beatnik jargon, in the 50s, but was it used before that?
I still have my hair, and after I retire sometime in the next 3 years, I may never cut my hair again. I think I will try the sophisticated pony tail with goatee look.
