I need something that will absolutely kill mimosa trees ! Sorry ,nuclear devices are out as they are too close to the house! I have used Roundup and something produced by them but the trees say "thanks for the nice fertilizer"!!!!!

Kill them????
Don't they make the most wonderful Sunday brunch coctails? Well, next to bloody Ceasars.....;)

There is a brush herbicide called Remedy. There is a generic product that is cheaper, but I can't think of the name. Mix about 80% diesel fuel and 20% Remedy, how much based on how many stumps you have. I usually mix about a gallon at the time. Cut the mimosa, and immediately either spray the stump with the mixture, or paint the stump with it. You can use vegetable oil rather than diesel fuel. Remedy is expensive, but it works pretty well.

Clear Pasture is the generic. It is somewhat cheaper

Cut the tree off and immediately treat the stump with Tordon RTU.

Good luck, Rick

My daughter keeps talking about planting a mimosa (which I learned only a few years ago are more properly called "silk trees") in her backyard. I didn't know anyone grew them on purpose.

"I didn't know anyone grew them on purpose."
Neither did I!! They seem to love my soil and climate and getting rid of them is a continual process!

I got rid of a Mimosa Tree about 15 years ago. I'm still plucking sprouts from the gravel. The tree from hades I tell you!!!!
Well, unless you count a chicken tree

Drill several 1/2" holes as deep as you can at the base of the trunk then pour gas or Round Up into the holes repeat every few days for a week or ten days.

I love mine. It's old, huge and shades half the house all summer long. Sometimes, there are so many hummingbirds in it when it flowers, that you can hear it buzz. I'll be happy to ship seedlings to anyone who wants them.

And the flowers smell so good! The seed pods are a bit of a pain, but everything has some negative. We used to call them either "Firecracker" trees or Fourth of July" trees because of the timing and color of their blossoms.

Milton...try a product called Gly-4 and mix it with the granular herbacide called Sahara...be careful though, as it will turn whatever vegetation it comes in contact with into a desert.
Cut it, spray it, and your done with the Mimosa tree problem.
You can get them both at the Co-op.

If I lived closer I'd offer to come over and take care of them for a month. That would kill them off for sure. I've proved that in my yard for many years.

My mother was from Alabama. She planted a mimosa tree on the side of the house in NJ. My dad (from New York) continually ran it over with the lawnmower - unintentionally, he said. I don't believe it ever really grew.

Drill a 1/4 inch hole in the trunk at a Y in the tree. Take Round Up and a straw. Fill straw with RU and let it run into the hole. Put lots in there. Let it set for several days and repeat.
