Anyone knowledgeable on trees.

The photo with a bit of guard rail in it , looks like Ash. Emerald ash bore took out those trees 7to 8 years ago, then the trees blow over in another 3 or 4. I believe your area is a year or too slower than mine.

I am ashamed to say that I spent a LOT of time back in my early twenties learning about tree identification, but sadly remember almost nothing that I learned. Based on just the bark, the two resemble red and white oak, but don't hold me to that. I used to know a couple of timber cruisers who could have given you a positive and correct answer, but they left this mortal part of life several years ago.

I don't think America even has chestnut trees after the blight. That is some rare wood you had in those floors! I can't believe no one came along and dragged those oaks away to mill them down. Kind of a shame.

I could show you 3 tomorrow. They are still around, but rarely get above 30' before the blight gets them.

I'm a naturalist. Can't ID by bark. Do you have leaf pix?
