I took in two kittens about nine months ago. There chasing the shoe leather laces and the laser red dot all the time honing there skills.
Today my misses thought it was a play toy mouse that my kitten named "Cole" had. He caught a real mouse. All my training I did with them paid off. The kittens are brothers and the shy one Cole proved he's a mouser. His brother Garfield is not afraid of nothing.
It's funny that animals can have different personalities too. These two kittens play fight with my three tamed feral cats too. I have the WWF entertainment for free with front row seats.

Tonight we'll breakout the fancy feast for Cole to celebrate his first kill.

The little hobby farm is well protected.

Congrats to Cole on his first kill. None of our inside boys have had that experience and never will but Myah, our outside feral cat mops up on the doves that come to our feeders. I have never seen her with a mouse but since the park is just on the other side of our back fence I'm sure she knows what a fat juicy mouse or rat tastes like. She's not a big cat. Probably weighs about 7 lbs but she is faster than greased lightneing. And she is plenty agile. She gets over the 6' wood fence in two moves and is gaining speed as she clears the top and goes over.

I've watched her defend her food bowl on the back deck against cats more than twice her size and it is over real quick but fun to watch while it lasts. She goes for the eyes and there is more than one feral cat around here that could use an eye patch. This is one reason I've never tried to pick her up or even touch her. I know she loves me 'cause I feed her every day but I ain't gonna push my luck. ;)

Here's a couple of the latest pics I have of her.

First look in her eyes and squint your eyes at her. If she squints back your making contact with her on her level. Put some tuna by hand near her.
Then I would try to hand feed her. At the same time try to play with her with a shoelace. It takes time to become trusted friends.

I took in my three feral cats when they were kittens so small they would fit in your hand. They took the mother cat away so these kittens were near death. I had to hand feed them slowly a little at a time. My trick to make friends is to use tuna.

I never realized that feral cats can be traumatized too. I got them out of there she'll and they started trusting me. But the two new kittens really made them open up. I'm glad I saved them all from disaster when no one wanted them. I also take in abandoned kittens I find in the woods too.
All my dogs have been unwanted pups too. I do what I can do.

There was a documentary on domestic cats not long ago where they attached a GoPro (or something equivalent) to a cat who went out every night in order to study their hunting habits and success rates from a cat's eye view. Within something like 2 minutes of leaving the house the cat spotted, stalked, and caught a mouse or a rat (I forget which). They were not expecting such rapid results.

My cat is a female calico who has never gone outdoors with the rare exception of when she darts out the door and we bring her right back and one night where she got out and we didn't know till the next morning. She is about 16 years old and about a year ago - middle of the night - she is outside my bedroom door (not closed) yowling - so I go to see what is wrong - and there is something in my doorway - I turn on the lights and there is a dead mouse that she has presented to me.

Years ago when Zachary our long haired black Persian male was a youngster, we had a curmudgeonly old grey tabby female named Bluey.
Zachary would want to play but Bluey would have nothing to do with him.
One day they were bapping something back and forth to one another in the middle of the hall. "Hey look, they're playing with a toy mouse." Nope it was a dead mouse.

There's info on the net how to talk with your cat. I haven't done it all but they lick me letting me know I'm family.

Bill ... Your cats remind me of a feral kitten who found me nearly 20 years ago. I had gone out for some un-Godly reason at 1am on a warm summer night to a self serve carwash. The bays were near a small wooded area, and after I'd finished washing and rinsing, I took my car over to the vacuum area. As I was vacuuming, I sensed something near me and as I shut the vacuum, I heard a mewing. I happened to look down and there between my feet was a small, dirty red and white kitten making a world of noise. Cat lover that I am, I was compelled to put the little feller in a box, and take him home. He was infested with fleas, and extremely hungry, no doubt a feral babe in the proverbial woods. I bathed him and cleaned him up as best as I could, then put him to bed for the night. The next day, I brought him to the vet to have an evaluation on his condition. The news was not good ... the little guy carried feline AIDS, and was living on borrowed time. The Dr. advised that I put him down, but I chose otherwise ... that kitten had found me for a reason, and I felt that he deserved a good life, no matter how long he lived. Well, the little bugger grew up to be an amazing natural hunter. He looked like a lanky Persian, with a distinctive mane, and was as loving to me as he was deadly to his prey items, which consisted of various rodents, birds, snakes, and whatever crossed his path outdoors. My Tsavo lion didn't make it past his second birthday due to his disease, but the time we had together made up for him getting shortchanged. He was a special feline, and I was happy to have saved him from an otherwise cruel fate.

BTW ... As we had come together at the carwash, I named him Suds. He was a good boy.

Walkin'jack-look up "Korat" cat-from Thailand. They stay small and are built with stocky little legs like yours. We have one and she's definitely a handful-even with one eye.

I've always liked cats but I have developed a much higher respect for them since the kitty possibly saved the little boys life last week. Go Kats!!!

Christmas 2 years ago: My late, great China had been sick for months, getting weak and layin low and we knew her time was short. she went to the door to go out, I let her ( expecting her to go out and find a place to die) and she showed up about ten minutes later, at the front door. She presented a mouse. Her last act of duty. Two days later she checked out.:(

I find in adopting two or more they seem happier to be together. The two new kittens I just adopted play together and the feral cats have come out of there she'll too and enjoy playing with them. Plus watching them all play is fun too. My yellow lab puts up with it till he's a target. But he thinks he's a cat too sometimes.
