Knee surgery and Elmer Keith

All of the above recommendations are good. "The Accurate Rifle" by Warren Page is also a good read.
Certainly dated, but a good book worth reading. I've read much Elmer Keith material; Page's book is better. Can't take Skeeter Skelton's stories, but he did do an occasional gun article heavy on the guns and handloading and light on the tall tales.

magazine article he wrote was for The American Hunter magazine in the 1990's I think, titled "Katwindi". It is a story about a newly-trained black Game Control Officer hired by the government a d assigned to work with Capstic
Was that the one where he was culling elephants? And he said that his helper was actually a good shot, because unlike most Africans he did not think that the harder you pulled the trigger the faster the bullet went. So he would carefully squeeze the trigger and hit the target.

I believe the helper got kneed by an elephant. It didn't use its tusk. It knelt on him and squished his innards.

I think. I read that story a long long time ago, but I think that's what happened.
