knife sheath and box

I just picked this up at a sale, the end of the box has a label and written on it is TR14644? The sheath has the S&W logo stamped on the back. I checked the S&W book and can't find any reference to it, can any one shed any ligth on this. THANKS BOB

Hello Bob, the box and sheath are from one of the 20,000 Texas Ranger Bowies made in 1973 and serial numbered from TR1 through TR20,000.
