Knives Seen in Movies

Have any of you seen identifiable knives in movies?

I recently saw, "The Hunter" in which Willem Dafoe's character made good use of a Spyderco that may be their Delica model. I have one, but am unsure of the model, as I've never been heavily into Spyderco. But it's a good, effective knife. Mine has a four-inch blade, partially serrated. I think it's the same knife as in the movie, or very close.

The Buck Model 120 is one of the most used in Hollywood. It was in the four (?) "Scream" movies, on "90210" and in other productions . I saw one on the cover of a movie box in a rental store, but the idiot artist had portrayed it with the blade upside down! Too much artistic license...

Any others? I forget who made the Rambo knives. I think maybe Jimmy Lile. Jack Crain made the knife for "Predator."
In fact, while writing a profile of Crain, I was able to don the combat vest worn by Arnold S. in the movie. It was far too large for me, and quite heavy.

In the movie Broken Trail, a cowboys best friend can be seen in many scenes. The movie has several scenes in which a folding knife aka pocket knive can be seen. Few realise the horsemen seldom carried a belt knife, as they are very dangerous to the rider when thrown from a horse. I grew up in cattle country and never knew a rancher to carry a fixed blade knife, and never knew anyone that didnt carry a pocket knife. In the movie The Great Escape there is a scene in which James Garner has a pocket knife in the presence of a German guard. A little know fact, many prisioners were allowed to keep their pocket knives.

I don't many that don't carry a pocket knife. On second thought I don't know many.

I think Chuck Norris had a Buck 120 in the first "Missing in Action."

I remember those Crain knives from "Predator" and thought they were awesome! Remember the knife from "Commando?" I wonder if that was a Crain knife?

Anyone know of any Randall Made Knives in any movies?

I wrote up, "Commando" for, "Blade" and think he did use Crain knives, or Liles. I'll see if I can find that issue. I got some slides from the movie's PR people, and that really helped.

Although I reviewed a Morgan Fairchild movie ("The Seduction") in which Buck kitchen knives were seen, I concentrated in the movie review on her using an Ithaca M-37 to defend herself. The studio provided slides of her with the shotgun. I was surprised to find a couple of years later when talking to Morgan F. in a restaurant where she had the next table that she barely remembered the movie and couldn't even recall which shotgun she'd used. Actors are sometimes that way. To her, the film was just work. But it made the point that the police cannot protect you, and you must plan for your own safety. (Her TV reporter character was stalked by a crazy fan.)

BTW, my mother taught Morgan in 11th Grade Honors English class, and she was a very bright student. She may be the only actress with a serious interest in paleontology, which she can discuss with authority. She had just gotten a fossil ammonite (snail) which she enjoyed telling me about.
But she couldn't recall the Buck knives in the movie's kitchen. They were just props to her.

The Crocodile Dundee knife is something of a mystery. I wrote to the studio in Australia and asked for assistance in writing about the knife. They replied that it had been made by some friend of the star, but he didn't want to name him or discuss the knife. That is the opposite of US knife makers, who usually want publicity. Maybe he was mostly a prop maker who was afraid that he'd be deluged by knife orders?

On the TV series, "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World", the male characters had Bowie knives, but it was difficult to tell which ones. I think I saw a couple of Bokers and maybe some were made by Australian custom makers and/or by Linder Messer in Solingen. The show was filmed in Queensland.

But Jennifer O'Dell's character (Veronica) had very identifiable knives. She played the jungle girl in whose big treehouse the core characters lived. The crude knife that she had in the first season and with which she killed a nasty caterpillar with acidic blood was a British MOD jungle knife. Later, she used Fairbairn-like knives, one with a wood or leather handle, and she had a Second Model Fairbairn in the episodes where the ghostly Capt. Askwith had his dirigible that was doomed to sail on forever to punish him for murdering his crew. One version had a retracting blade to let Veronica stab the other actor and have the knife look like it went in. You get a great closeup view as this happens.

You can view a clip of one episode on YouTube where bad guy Avery Burton captures Veronica and makes her give up her knives. In it, she stabs her leather (?) handled dagger into a stump and you get a very clear view of it. I think it may have been made by Fox Knives in Italy. Or, someone in the prop dept. may have used a Fairbairn blade and guard and added a new handle. The sharpest clip of that sequence on YouTube is dubbed in Russian. I think you'll find it if you search for Jennifer O'Dell in The Lost World. The episode was, "Trophies", from the Second Season. You may also find English versions, but those I saw were not of the best resolution. Pay attention to the knife the first time you see it. You can then re-run the video to concentrate on Jen as Veronica. Or, do the reverse. But she is going to jerk male heads around in her cute little jungle girl outfit, so be prepared for that distraction. You really do get a super view of the knife in the stump.

I know in "We were soldiers..." the book, there were several Randall's mentioned and at least one photo of an officer with one. I "think" I remember a scene where one guy is carrying a Randall #1.

"Quiqley Down Under" had a Chuck Stapel knife.

"Saving Private Ryan" had several of the Rangers wearing stag-handles knives that I think were Marble's.
