Was visiting a local pawn shop yesterday for the first time. The folks there commented they had just received 3 Smith snubbies from an elderly gent who was "thinning the herd"
I picked up this like-new BG 38 for a very reasonable price. Action is great, shoots to POA and will make a great alternative to my heavy G-19 for EDC...But the darn skinny grip kills my knuckle when firing.
I thought I might try the old pachmyr grip sleeve that was popular years ago..but then I figured I'd ask the experts here for advice on a workaround.

If you have large hands getting you knuckles busted is just part of the "fun", NOT. I shot my Chief's Special last week and quickly remembered one of the reasons I have not really shot it much lately. The heavier the load, the more it hurts. Try 148 grain wadcutters or regular velocity 158 rggain RNL bullets as they are very mild shooting. You could also try different grips.

I don't believe the grip on the BG38 is replaceable...maybe someone can comment on that...and I did try 148 WC and they still hurt...😭edited to add...all is not lost, I have a bid in on GB for a beautiful model 649 ., so if I win, I'll sell the BG and put a nice CTC grip on the 38 and call it a day

The problem is your hand size/shape. All S&Ws will batter the second knuckle of many peoples hands, at least all of mine do in any frame size or caliber. A grip adapter, if the gun has Magna stocks, ill lower your hand a bit and may help you.

Problem is; it is the Bodyguard polymer framed 38 snubbie...I don't believe the grip can be changed...if no one with more information replies, I'll call CS and ask if there is anything aftermarket they can suggest.. I have in my mind that some bicycle inner tube rubber may be of some help...

A Knuckle Buster is Ole Evinrude's 1909 Rowboat Motor. The flywheel needed to have a rope wound around it to start it and often it kicked back, hence wrapping your knuckles.

Everyone forgot about these:

UPDATE: Actually, I think Alk8944 had the grip adapter idea first. The issue is, can the adapter installed on a BG and not a normal J-frame? Ebay is full of 3D printed adapters, there may be models developed for the BG specifically.

The only way I can imagine the Tyler-T ( the original) being able to work is; cut off the ears and use a high quality adhesive to glue it to the grip...the BG is a one piece grip...I will sell it before I make that kind of mod which would affect future value too much

Reminds me of the old joke: Guy walks into the doctors office. Says, Doc, it hurts when I do this. Doc says, "Then don't do that."

You know the gun functions, and prints to point of aim.

Shoot your 17/617. (Better yet, buy another gun that you do like to shoot! lol)

Carry BG-38.

I guarantee you'll never feel your knuckle if you have to use that gun for its intended purpose.
