I have a pretty good stash of 2nd/3rd gen s-w's and probably 20 different holsters for them, but I just got my first 2 revolvers recently. I started big also, a 4" model 28 and a 4" 686. No J-frames yet, but I'm wanting to carry my 686 sometimes, especially now that it's jacket weather. What type of rigs do you wheel gun guys use for the larger framed 4"-ers?? The problem w-shoulder rigs is the jacket can't be removed. Or should I just continue carrying my compact semi autos 'til a J-frame enters the collection. Thanks...I know, ANOTHER holster question!

YMMV, but I carry big revolvers IWB. I carry my 5" 629, which is a much bigger, heavier gun than a 4" L frame, in a FIST kydex/leather hybrid IWB holster. It's the 1A I think. Get it with a body shield if you order one. The price is definately right.

Try a few before you buy if at all possible. You may find, as I have, that you just don't want to carry something of the size and weight of the revolvers you have mentioned, at least not on a regular basis. YMMV.

It may be because of many years of wearing a gunbelt in LE, but I hate having anything now around my waist, even a cellphone. I keep a J frame in a Galco pocket holster at all times, with something larger in reach in whatever vehicle I happen to be in. I have some decent belt holsters for the Glocks and S&W revolvers, but very, very, seldom put one on; if I do, it is for range or woods use.

I have a 686 now and owned a Model 28 many years ago, so know what you are looking at. Good luck.

go owb all the way,it's way more comfortable that way.you can also carry the same rig in the summer time with the right shirt.here is a web site use for almost every thing i have www.packinheatleather.com

I have carried N frame 4" and 6.5" 44 Mags, first Mexican carry, then in a Milt Sparks Summer Special for over 30 years...
