Lanyard loop pin on Nightguard series

I have a 325 Nightguard. This revolver came with the later generation S&W rubber grips that cover the backstrap of the revolver, but the Pachmayr rubber grips that were originally used on the Nightguard series also cover the backstrap. So, why is this relevant? The S&W Scandium frames have a relief notch that runs vertically at the bottom portion of the backstrap. There is a hole drilled horizontally through this relief notch. A pin is inserted through this hole, and is held in place by the grips. All of this engineering combined makes a lanyard loop. On the 325 Nightguard with the grips that cover the backstrap, this lanyard loop is not accessible, and therefore irrelevant, unless someone were to swap the grips for some that do not cover the backstrap, which is exactly what I did. So herein lies the problem. The cross pin to create the lanyard loop is missing on my gun. My question is, did S&W deliberately omit the pin, since my gun was shipped with grips that cover the backstrap, or was this an oversight on their part? Please check your Nightguards for me and see if yours does or does not have the cross pin in the lanyard loop notch. Thanks!

Order a lanyard pin for $3 on Midway, or call S&W and they will probably send you one for free. My 43C had to go back for repairs and was also missing its lanyard pin. They replaced it for free.

I don't blame you for switching the grips. I like the Night Guard but I feel that the original Night Guard grips looked better. The newer grips look like the ones used by Rossi. Also, the lanyard pin should be an easy thing to remedy. Call S&W or order it as suggested above. A lanyard is handy sometimes.

Check and see if they put it in the box.

I've lost several lanyard pins.

S&W sent me a free replacement the first time. The second time I didn't bother them, I cut a section of coat hanger wire to length and it works perfectly.

Just checked my 310 Night Guard, the pin is in it. I put a set of S&W checkered Finger Groove Walnuts on mine. Looks much better.

I put a set of Ahrends Moradillo Roundbutt Retro Combats on mine. Looks and feels much better. Size XL gloves fit snugly on my hands but I could barely reach the trigger with the wrap around rubber grips that cover the backstrap. Thanks for the input. I bought this revolver for a woods and trail companion. I might just want to utilize a lanyard at some point, so I probably will seek out a pin. Thanks again!

My little 340 M&P has a lanyard hole as well...

On the 340, it actually creates a pretty sharp edge...and when touching off .357 magnum in this airweight....that sharp edge does eventually start to wear on ya.....

Does anyone actually use a lanyard on a revolver anymore?
