Larger Caliber CCW

Even when you're older than dirt you can do something to improve your physical conditioning.

The odds of daily exercise lengthening your lifespan are far greater than the odds of it ever making the deciding difference in a gunfight.

My home gym is full of people who are over 50 who are just in there trying to keep their mobility.

I'm not sure of the proper terminology but what I want to communicate here is it just because you didn't kill them doesn't mean you didn't stop them.
I think I was not clear about fitness.
I do not refer to some notion of general health, but rather physical competence to fight in the way you will likely need to. The point about fitness not being needed to point and pull a trigger is well taken, but still presumes that firing is all that is needed.
It is a distinct possibility that you will need to run either to cover or to create distance.
It is also possible that a fight will last longer than you want it to.
It is possible you may be wounded, and spend time in hospital.
It is possible that you will need empty hand strength and skill to solve the problem.
All of this works better if you are fit enough.
It is fine to discuss our equipment and debate the advantages of this it that caliber or action type, as long as the more likely considerations are weighed sufficiently.

Please correct me with my much thanks!

I only pocket carry, and what I pocket carry depends on what pants/shorts I'm wearing due to pocket size. I'm either carrying a LCP, S&W 442, or a Beretta Nano. I train with all of them and feel confident in using all of them. I'm not changing any of that due to 'current circumstances'.

I don't see a realistic scenario where carrying a larger caliber or more rounds is going to be a game changer. For those of you changing things up, an honest question: What is the scenario that you're thinking may happen that requires you to go bigger or harder?
It is a matter of options. The longer barrel is advantageous at all ranges and also in any struggle for the gun. In my view, all handguns are a disappointment, including full size service pistols. Carry what you can fight with effectively and study on everything else that goes along with it.

I mean I don't disagree with you but that's not the reality for everyone. I'm a 60 year old cripple with one working arm. I could spend forever in the gym I'm not going to go toe to toe with some Thug that attacks me in a parking lot.

Again, age and injuries I'm not ever going to run anywhere again.
It is also possible that a fight will last longer than you want it to.
Isn't that a given?
It is possible you may be wounded, and spend time in hospital.
Again, a given.

Don't disagree at all but again beyond my capabilities and probably beyond the capabilities of a lot of the senior citizens that participate in this forum

Again, no disagreement

I generally carry a high capacity 9mm. Usually a Glock 17 or 26 depending on where I am going and wearing. I would much rather carry the new Smith and Wesson 686 with a 2.5" barrel but the problem is I live in an urban environment where I expect multiple assailants and want more ammo in the gun. I plan to carry the 686 when I know I will be surrounded by armed friends but for the most part it will still be my Glock or perhaps an HK.
