What company makes the best laser sight for the 340pd , LaserMax or Crimson Trace ?

After 2 years, I'm very happy with the factory-installed CT grips on my S&W 642/CT. CT "factory-installed" grips have the S&W logo on them while the after-market CT grips have the "CT" logo.

Crimson Trace

I have a 340pd in 357 mag. The thing kicked unbelievably bad with the stock grip. I installed a set of Crimson Trace laser grips and the pistol became manageable. That extra little bit of grip allows your pinky finger to have something to hang on to. It is like having a different pistol. The CT grips are definitely a worth while addition.

I have no experience with LaserMax products, but I have Crimson Trace grips on three handguns, my Browning High Power and my S&W 637 and 686+. I bought the 637 about seven years ago and had the dealer install the LG 305 grips on it (didn't take me long to realize I could have done it myself). This is an excellent choice for a J-frame snubby, as it covers the backstrap (which gives some protection from recoil) and allows a full-fingered grip. The LG 107 and 407 sets leave your pinky out in space. The 107 set is made of hard plastic and does not cover the backstrap, so has to be punishing to shoot. The 407 not only covers the back strap, it has a shock absorber built into the top of the back strap, which has to be welcome when shooting more than twenty rounds -- even of range loads! I shoot weekly at a local indoor range, always at 5-10 yards, and mostly with laser sights. I am old, and if I am not wearing my glasses I cannot even SEE the iron sights on my handguns, much less use them. I have no problem seeing that red dot, and I just love seeing a black hole appear where the red dot used to be.

I am so sold on Crimson Trace laser grips that I would not buy a handgun that they did not offer grips for. I consider such weapons to be fatally flawed.

CT is the original and remains the best by a wide margin - IMHO.

I evaluated both brands before buying CT and now have CTs on four defensive handguns.

I couldn't be more pleased with them.

The only downside is that you have to protect them very well or remove them completely when cleaning the guns.

Crimson Trace. I've got a set on 4 firearms. I put the 405's on my 340PD. The padded backstrap takes out some of the pounding that little lightweight bugger can deliver to the hand shooting full house magnums.

Better late then never. My 642 wears some CT 405 grips and i love them. I want so bad to put some nice wood on this gun but don`t want to give up the CT`s.

I have LaserMax grips on two of my J frames, and Crimson Trace grips on a K frame and an N frame. Crimson Trace's Customer Service is 100X better than LaserMax. In my opinion, neither product is perfect, LaserMax could be so much better with a few modifications, as an example, though they claim their LaserMax J frame grips are made for law enforcement or the armed professional, they are not designed for use around a speedloader. If you try to modify your grips, you void your warranty.

I decided to purchase CT for 2 pieces.....a Colt Mustang and a M36 Smith square butt...............

They don't make anything for either one.

I have Crimson Trace laser grips on three of my handguns. They don't make them for my J.C. Higgins .22 revolver (bought new in 1955) or my wife's Colt 1908 Pocket Model (bought used in 1962). I have stated repeatedly, on several web sites, that I would not buy a handgun that Crimson Trace did make laser grips for. I consider such weapons to be fatally flawed. You named two that should not be bought, and to balance the account I named two others.
