I watched the 1990s motion picture starring Barbara Hershey and Tom Berenger. In the movie Berenger relied on his dog, Zip, heavily to track escaped convicts. It's the dog about which I'm wanting information.

What breed is Zip? As best you can, describe the breed's nominal physical configuration.

Is the breed inherently short tailed, or was Zip's tail docked?

The plot is supposed to take place in northwest Montana, being filmed in Alberta. Is Zip's coat adequate for the climate where he and Berenger are supposed to live?

Looks like an australian cattle dog

If you're looking to own one read up on this breed. They are not for apartments or small yards

The Aussie that walked up to me in the jewelry store looked a lot like this one.
I suspect she is a city girl and hasn't spent any time roaming around in Montana or Canada.

That looks like an Australian Shepard. Not the same as the Australian Cattle Dog. Many of the Shepard's have two different colored eyes, one brown and one blue.

My vote is for Australian Blue Heeler. I have two 1/2 blood females the other 1/2 being German Shepherd coyote mix. They are great dogs and very protective of the family members.
