Isn't it fun finding those. I was at my FFLs on Saturday and this fellow was in there with a 98+% .44 HE 2nd Model with a 4" barrel. He got it at an estate sale and wanted to find out its value. He left with it. He also had a NIB 520.

what model is it?

Kit gun was the model. Not a number, but a name. In the prewar versions, it used an I frame and there has never been a kit gun with a model stamp on an I frame. When the Kit Gun was remodeled in 1953, it became the Model of 1953 Kit Gun. That later morphed into the Model 34.

Not my favorite model, but I sure like the wood bowl. That was one of my other passtimes a few years ago.

Naw, they were smarter then. That's an internal UNlock. Its there to make sure the gun never locks up.

That is simply an outstanding and ultra-desirable original pre-war .22 Kit Gun. I found the exact identical model, ser. #532XXX, exhibiting extended square butt regulation Police type stocks and a patridge front sight, about 5 years ago at a gun store in Lancaster County PA. Owner didnt realize it was a true pre-war kit gun and priced it substantially below market value. Yours is nicer than mine which retains approx. 85% original bright blue. Just happened across another identical 4" model last week retaining only 30-40% weak blue, with serial no. 276XXX. This had to be a factory converted 6" Beakert model as the serial is way low being built substantially before the actual production of Kit Guns by S&W in 1936. Left that one slide. Anyhow, congrats on a great catch. Enjoy and best regards.

Fantastic.
Shouldn't you be on the pre-war side??

I don't appreciate being tempted while trolling my usual 1945 to present site
