Latest Heiser Pickup

I note that the OPs holster and Lee Ericsson’s holster both have cut away for trigger but mine does not. Can anyone comment as to if mine is really for 1911 ? Thank you.

Likely it was for a revolver. The 1911 inserts into a 5" N frame holster with the trigger guard covered, looking natural only in modern times. Back then it was expected the trigger of any pistols w/b accessible. Nevertheless some examples exist.

Here's a pair of images, done with turnerriver's cooperation because he has real guns and I can't have them: same holster, both pistols, and the safety strap fits ideally for both. But the trigger normally would be exposed on the auto in the era of this Heiser holsters:

The 420 Heiser holster was made for autos, the model 2420 shown is a fully lined model 420. I can see a couple of etched 0’s on your holster, use a flashlight and see if there are any other etched or inked letters or numbers. To me it looks like your holster was made for the .45 auto although my photos of the experiment Red encouraged me to try are germane.

Boykinlp sorry to hijack the thread !!
Thank you Red. I’m pretty confident it was not for a Revolver. There is no molding for a cylinder it is straight walled. The 1911 is a perfect fit except for the replaced square edge rear sight scraping the lining. The safety strap is correctly angled to go under the beaver tail and around the grip safety. I’ve tried to show that in photos. Does the model number of 2420 document the fit in any way ? Does the shape and style of the makers stamp or the snap head reveal any clues to narrow down the age ? Appreciate the assistance and feedback.

Regards,

Turnerriver got it right in one, I see that 420 is exclusively for autos. Mea culpa, next time I'll dig a little deeper.
