I just got this. Paid way too much probably; my fault, I hit accept instead of decline on e-bay in response to an offer made by the seller. ( I had asked what his lowest price would be) My mistake so I completed the transaction.

It fits my Mod 41 auto magazine nicely and snugly but the strap is a good bit longer than needed. could easily lose an inch where the strap loops over the top.

Essentially new, well oiled and no signs of use. The only Lawrence marking are on the Snap. This is a nice well made mag carrier.

The belt loop is set up for horizontal carry. Is this normal on the Lawrence magazine carriers? I had assumed most would be vertical carry.

Given the length of the flap, I'm not sure what magazine this was actually for. It was listed as for a Ruger .22 auto, I'm using it for a Mod 41. Since most .22 rimfire autos use a 10 shot magazine that are pretty much the same length I wonder why such a long snap flap.

Can the Snap be re-set on the strap higher and the strap shortened? Can the Lawrence snap button be re-used or would a new button be needed? I do not have the tools to perform this, Could a shoe repair place be trusted ( I shudder at this based on my last interaction with one)
Maybe I'll just leave it alone. While the magazine could slide out some (it is held by friction) it cannot come clear out.

Shortening it an inch and installing a new snap would be easy.
Re-using the existing snap would be much more difficult if not almost impossible. If the Lawrence marking on the snap is important to you then I'd leave it as is. If not, than just about any leatherworking person or shop should be able to shorten it up for you.

Shoe repair shops aren't particularly talented, are they? I'd suggest a saddler/tack repair shop instead: they have the same equipment and hardware that holster shops have (not a coincidence).

I'd suggest that if you'd like to carry with the mag vertical, you ask the saddler to slit or slot the loop on the backside, twice, to make a new tunnel for you. Should actually work better for you than if the slots were hard up against the backside of the pouch.

And the second snap? As you say, not a collectible -- it's too late in Lawrence's production era, probably right towards the end in the '80s. All the Lawrences were dead except Bill III and he had fallen from his horse mid-80s and was a paraplegic; sold out to Gould & Goodrich 1989, they closed it up almost immediately.

Rednichols;

I like that idea of slotting the tunnel. It will give me an option for vertical or Horizontal carry.

I'll check around for a Saddler / Tack Repair shop in my area. It's usable the way it is for now but once modified I think it will be even better.
