Traded a LCR .38 Special with Crimson Trace for a Smith and Wesson 29-3 Nickel 8 3/8 barrel 44 magnum. I felt like it was a good deal but would like to know the opinions of the wiser ones on the forum. So please, chime in with the pros and cons of this trade. But before it comes up, I have other carry firearms. Blast away! :D

For value, you got a great deal. The S&W will appreciate far more than the LCR. For ammo cost effectiveness, .44s will empty your wallet quicker than .38s.

I don't think anyone around here will say you got the tail end of the trade. A long barrel N-frame is wonderful to shoot.

That to me is a fantastic DEAL! I would like to own a 29 myself someday. As mentioned, most Smiths will appreciate. Does the guy you traded have any other cool stuff he wants to unload? Do you reload .44? Enjoy it! Bob

The -2 was made from 82 to 88.in 82 pinned barrels and recessed cylinders as a close cutting tool. Although your barrel length isn't very practical depending on condition of the 29 you traded a $350 gun for a $600 + gun

The nickel was a little cloudy but it buffed out beautifully.

Am I the only one that remembers you posting a thread asking about value of "your" 29-3 4 days ago?

One cannot simply forget seeing a gorgeous nickel 8 3/8in Model 29!!

However you obtained it, it's a great gun, and I can't imagine anyone opposing that trade! :)

I am a HUGE fan of the LCR but I would have made that trade in a heartbeat. You did great.

Yep that was me. I was trying to find out the values for the trade.

The LCR had Crimson Trace, so it's probably worth more than $350...but even so, he got a good deal on the trade. You can always go buy a new LCR, since they are in production. You can't just go out and find a Model 29.

True. I felt that the worst I did was even trade but as mentioned before I felt the 29's value would increase faster than the LCR even with the Crimson Trace.

Sounds like the person really wanted and needed a carry gun. I'd say you came out ahead on that trade. I saw a Nickle 29-3 with the same bbl length at a gun show back in March and they were asking $850, probably could have gotten it for a bit less if I had flashed the cash.
I can't figure out why he didn't just sell the Smith and buy a new LCR and use what he had left over to buy ammo and an holster.
