Howdy. I have a 1006 with a LE marking of "BPD91-0065". Anyone familiar with any agency that uses this style of marking? Thanks.

Hi! Nice acquisition. Over 26,000 Model 1006's were produced. I think the possibilities are endless as a lot of LE agencies tested 10MM for a while. Might be worth a letter?

Call S&W they should be able to tell you what agency is was from.

It's not Boise. Idaho PD . They did use some 3RD gens back in the day but they were 45ACP.

However...
The last time I called and asked to which agency a particular pistol shipped, I was told they could not divulge that info.
Understanding the S&W "Customer Service Lottery" (i.e. you can get a different answer anytime you call), I called back a second time and got the same response.
This was odd because I had gotten that info on other pistols previously.
So who knows?
If the O.P. gets lucky and they tell him, I'll call them back and take a gamble.

Letter from the historical foundation will get you the dealer the item was shipped to. If you're willing to spend the $100. Once you've got the dealer, figuring out the department shouldn't be that hard.

S&W has always answered my questions on a gun.. I ease into by asking if there are recalls first, then ask if they have agency information..

The “BPD91” part refers to the Boston Police Dept., the “91” being short-hand for 1991 which could be the year this model 1006 became Dept. property, or possibly the year it was issued (or allowed) for duty use.
The “0065” part is the Dept.’s internal property-control number for the issued/allowed weapon. … Interesting, because it suggests this model was one of 65 M1006s issued by the Dept.
I have the same BPD91 marking on my 1006, BPD91-0075 being the full number. I bought it out of an estate sale years ago and never noticed the number on it until last year. Never thought Boston since I got it in Ohio but everything travels.
