Lead Bullets in 6 1/2" 500

I just bought a new 500 S&W with a 6 1/2" barrel this gun does not have the removable compensator. I was wondering if I will have any trouble with this barrel shooting hard cast bullets (plugging up the ports etc.)? Most of the other gun have separate compensators for lead bullets. I want to shoot both jacketed and hard cast in it. I just love the way this gun feels and shoots, balances much better than the longer barrels. Thanks for any help.

Can't specifically offer a great deal of info on that specific model. I did have one for a while and it showed no issue with the ports clogging.

I have two other .500 Mags, an 8 3/8th" original and a "barrel" comped 6.5" PC model. I have not had any issues with clogged comps on any of these guns.

All I can say is don't drive slugs w/o gas checks to max velocities, that will increase the probability of leading. Use gas checks for heavy loads. Don

I have the same model as you shortstuf and was wondering the same thing. I have been wanting to try some Buffalo Bore but wasn't sure if it clog up the ports. I also love this hand cannon! Not as bad as some people make it out to be, the recoil. I use padded gloves and it works out ok.

Don't think you'll have an issue, heavy Buffalo Bore loads use gas checks. Don

I have some 370gr Cast Performance gas check Bullets that I have shot though my 15" encore in 500S&W at 2005 fps with no problems. Just didn't know about this load in my new S&W as far as the compensator and leading. Thanks

I'm putting together a load: 380 grain Matt's hard cast, flat point, with gas check over Lil-gun that I intend to shoot from my 6.5"...so we'll see what it looks like after...

Thanks Kilibteaux I will be waiting to see how they work for you. I don't think that Matt's bullets are much over a 12 or 13 hardness in 50 cal. About what velocity are you shooting them? I put some Rainier 335gr HP. through the gun at 1590 fps and they shot good. Hope they work great in the 6 1/2" barrel.
