Leather holster for a S&W 1911

I'm looking for a good quality leather shoulder holster for a 1911. Something that fits tight against the body but allows for mobility and movement. Am I asking for too much? Does anyone have any suggestions??

This is pretty much the standard...I have one and it works great...horizontal hanging rigs are all the rage but I find this style works best with a gun of real weight.

Sip is dead on. This is the very best shoulder holster for a 5" 1911. I'm very thin and it hides on me!

Thanks for input everyone....Does anyone have any experience with the tanker style holsters. I have been looking at one from Diamond D Custom Leather.

I've been using the Rafters for several years now. I mostly carry a 4" 1911 but do carry a 5" at times. Their holsters ride high enough to allow easy concealability and nice and tight to the body.

(or is that tight to the body because of a little bit of KSCowboy expanding out to meet the gun?)

Seriously great holsters at a great price. Get the sharkskin as it is darn near indestructible and you'll pay as much for cowhide from other sources.

Tanker style holster are great for canoe, kayak, ATV or general field, where open carry is the goal. Remember, the shoulder harness strap does not hide, buy, lays across your chest.

p.s. I have one for the 1917 .45scp revolver and it works just fine. Mine came from El Paso Saddlery

I prefer Andrews Holsters, expensive but made for specific
model gun, now generic fit and excellent quality.

Have one for my Dan Wesson 1911 cmdr and love it.

Field or Concealment use?

I have used the Bianchi vertical shoulder holster, and horizontal shoulder holsters by Galco, Jackass, and Mitch Rosen.

The Bianchi was very solid and stable being anchored at the waist, and tucked in line with the torso, under the arm. Universal fit allowed for 1911s AND revolvers. A bargain!

The horizontal shoulder rigs were great for concealment and comfort, since they self-adjusted during mild motion. Under rigorous movement or a tussle, I would be concerned about weapon / gear security. Remember that the thumb break and simple friction hold weapon and gear in place.

Tanker holsters tend to be very rugged, secure, and comfortable, but are not the best for speed and concealment.
