I just bought a new set of Lee dies for the 44 mag/spec. I was using the powder through die and well, the powder didn't go through very well. It stuck inside the die. What can I use to clean out the die? Please help. As you could tell I am a new reloader. Thanks.

I didn't clean them out. I have Hornady one shot should I use that? The powder got stuck on the inside of the die itself. If one shot isn't good what else should I use?

Do not use One Shot lube and Cleaner inside the Powder Through die. Use alcohol or a solvent to clean the inside of the die and dry it good before use. Do not use any oil or cleaner on the inside of the die or it will cause the powder to stick to it as you found out. You can put a light coating of oil on the outside of the die to keep it from rusting. Discard any powder that you put through the die as the oil probaby ruined the powder.

Take the die apart, remove the inside tube.

Any solvent. Not a cleaner/lube product . As mentioned alcohol, mineral spirits, Hoppes #9. spray brake cleaner, Gun Scrubber etc, then wipe it out with a soft cloth or q tips as mentioned. How are you dropping the powder? Using the funnel and a dipper or a powder measure?

Once you use it a few times a light coating of powder residue will coat it and it will not clog up.

Great question-didn't even know I needed to clean out the dies unless Lee states that in the paper that comes w/the die of which I have not read yet since they are still in the box.

Question, can one just spray them w/break cleaner and be good to go like you mentioned ?

Thanks,
Jim

That's all I do with mine when brand new. If you use them for a while with lead bullets you may get more crud so a old tooth brush will help and some solvent. Until you know the dies, do them one at a time so you do not mix them up or put the inserts in upside down,;)

I find a light coating of graphite on die and powder measure keeps things moving along.
