Heck, I hate to hear that. A great comic actor, and a talented serious actor as well. I remember him as a couple of really scary bad guys in some minor films.
When young, he got to play valiant heartthrob roles. Anybody remember when he vaporized the tiger in "Forbidden Planet," saving Anne Francis in the process? That was one of the favorite movies of my pre-teen years.

Sad news indeed.....I was just watching "Wrongfully Accused" on the tube. "Police Squad" on tv (1982) where he played Lt. Sgt. Frank Drebin was just too good.
How many remember him playing Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" on tv back in the late 50s-early 60s in the Disney production? Francis Marion was a real Revolutionary War hero from South Carolina. Mel Gibson's "The Patriot" was said to have been patterned after Marion's wartime exploits.

What was the Quin Martin TV show he starred in as a Fed agent or DA? I'm not confusing him with Efrem Zimbalist, Jr and 'The FBI' - but it was a serious show. His worst spoof/comedy movies was 'Mr. Magoo'. I loved those spoofs! RIP, Lt. Derbin!

He was the star of one of my favorite dramas, "Forbidden Planet" and one of my favorite comedies, "Airplane".
One of Hollywood's best, RIP.

Forbidden Planet is one of my all time favorite sci-fi movies, but I remember when Leslie Nielson did a couple of episodes as a Mountie (his father was RCMP) on the show Due South, I almost fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard. A friend of mine met him back in the 70's in California not long after Nielson played the Captain in The Poseidon Adventure, he said that Nielson was very polite and very well spoken. Another great actor gone. RIP

My friends and I were in high school when Airplane came out. We quote the movie all the time. ("Pardon me, I speak jive"). One of my friends used a quote last night to get a laugh and then find out Nielson passed yesterday. RIP.
