Let see some X-Frame holsters!

Thank you, that spring retention one with the safety strap looks very nice. You can pull it out forward, and still have a retention strap so it doesn't go anywhere till you want it to.
(#58), especially for the price. I too am a function kinda guy.. just want it to do its job.
What color is yours called?

It is medium brown with a dark brown shoulder piece and x straps. Breaks up the color a bit with camo. You're right about the easier accessibility of the Mod.58. It wasn't available when I got mine (I believe mine's a Mod. 57).

Mine was a special order, as they all are, with a special longer belt loop that allows for extended arm reach (for when my hands are extended far above my head). That feature doesn't cause my pants to be pulled up to my chest when I'm all stretched out on the ground. I used to hunt with 8 3/8" 29s and 57s. The Bianchi X-15s and Safariland holsters left little room for movement necessary for many hunting situations. Tall people who use shoulder holsters will know what I mean.

Nelson's has been great about my making small special requests like the longer belt snap... They are very well known on the West Coast as a LE supplier. They are good about providing estimated production time and delivering on those dates....but there are prettier holsters being made if that matters..:)

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on the model #58-H from the A E Nelson leather company for my 6 1/2 incher. Still unsure of what I will do for the big guy.. its hosting a scope now and that limits a lot of stuff. Got a decent drop leg for it for now, but that is not real good for trucking through the woods for a long time.

I also use my 500 for hunting....

I prefer leather and look for a very secure holster as I'm usually crawling on my belly in the rough terrain I prefer to hunt.

Below is a picture of an A.E.Nelson holster I had made for my 6.5. It's a leather holster based on utility and firearm security rather than appearance.

It was easily among the lowest priced all leather holsters I researched with the current price at $88.00.

I bought their "pouch type". They have since begun to offer a spring type break-open that looks very appealing. That new break-open is the one I'm referring to...

Their web address showing the new holster is:

A. E. Nelson Leather Co.

Don't expect these to be an absolute work of artistic leather art but I can vouch for them being an excellent choice as a "work horse" holster...

My "pouch" type...

Thanks STCM(SW), I got that drop leg for my scoped 8 3/8 incher

And thanks Terry, I just ordered the #58-H for my 6 1/2 inch model. Which is the spring break front open one.

Now I want to fine a nice leather holster for the scoped big guy..we will see where this takes me. If I like the one I ordered for my 6 1/2" from A E Nelson leather I may just get one from them, they said they could make one special order for me.

All those look pretty good, Uncle Mikes have proved themselves as good holster makers..

I figured a couple decent nylon holsters were good but I'm also wanting some nice leather holsters for these nice guns..

Smith and Wesson has 2 nice lined leather shoulder holsters on their site, black and tan respectively, that I was gonna buy but, they are bandoleer type. Not vertical like I'm looking for....

WHOOHOO... just got a shipped notice on my holster from A.E. Nelson.. looks like I'll have my holster in a few days, I'll
give a report then..

So I got the holster, very nice stuff. Obviously stiff due to its newness, been wandering about the house wearing it to break it in a bit.
Only thing I don't like is there is no belt loop on the off side and with the weight of the 500 it tends to migrate to my left side. I'm going to take it to the local cobbler and have him add a loop on the off side, to the back of that shellholder in the pic.

Oh!..... That's very nice, A.O.

Looks like they've changed a few things for the better. I know the springs can be tight until the holster receives quite a bit of use but that's good from MPOV. My Bianchi's and Safariland's for N frames were tight, too, but the X frame guns will need to have their holsters open wider when drawn because of the much larger cylinder..

I'm going to look into a break-open like yours for my own 6.5in.

Was the ammo holder an option or is that being included now?

It IS very nice, I'm very happy with it.
The shell holder is an option.. 5 loops were 30 bucks, and I think I could have gotten 10 loops for 45 bucks. Its not listed on their site anywhere you will have to ask for it if you want one.

I would like to leave the gun in the holster to aid in break in also, but have heard bad things about leaving guns in holsters.

That Kodiak is a good looking holster for a scoped pistol! But I have a question about the flashlight/strap dealie... Since it's a belt tie-down for your initial holster purchase and going to be snapped to the inside/belt side of the holster... You're not gonna be using the flashlight, eh??

Unless I'm missing something....

Actually, have a look at the pic I posted, I am going to mount a snap on the face (outside) of the cartridge carrier just below the bullet heads that it would snap to, facing the light out..
Does that make any sense?

After re-reading and looking at the pic's in that post I see what I missed.... Silly me..... :D

Well back to the problem of the no off side belt loop, instead of having a loop sewn on that ammo carrier I ordered this to solve the problem, just have to add a snap.

FLASHLIGHT HOLSTER SIDE TIE DOWN: Holsters & Ammo Carriers: Shoulder Holster Component / Accessories at Galco

And I went ahead and ordered one of these holsters for the big boy.. seemed like the nicest available..

KODIAK HUNTER SHOULDER HOLSTER: Holsters & Ammo Carriers: Hunting Holsters at Galco

Well I got my order today, looks like the little flashlight holder/belt loop dohickybob is going to be perfect, need to get the snap installed on my shell holder to try it out.

As for the new Galco holster.. Optics Planet sent me the wrong one!!!!! Sent me a holster for a S&W N frame/Ruger Redhawk without a scope!!:mad:

Does Optics Planet EVER get it right?? I've not dealt with them for a long time for screwing orders up, but I figured I was going through Amazon so I'd try it... AND THEY SCREWED THINGS UP AGAIN!!! Never again...
Sorry off my soapbox now... and to see if I can find a holster to order... SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

OK UPDATE TO THIS THING...

So I got my snap installed on my shell carrier.. had a heck of a time finding a snap that had a long enough shank on it to work with the thick leather, but finally did. Here's some pics of stuff...

Here is the snap installed..

And with the extender/belt loop/flashlight holder installed

And a couple pics of the holster on...

Now to get a new flashlight for it, I'm
thinking an Eagle Tac D25LC2 Clicky should fit the bill about perfect!!
