I can see there isn't a whole lot of activity in the SD/Sigma sub-forum. It's a shame because these guns are among the best of the budget guns on the market. A number of years ago I picked up this lightly used SD9VE for $250, and it's been 100% reliable regardless of what I fed it. It's completely stock except for a modest amount of grip tape applied, fixing what is my biggest complaint about it (the lack of traction on the OEM grip).

The trigger isn't the best, but it's far from the worst. As a matter of fact this is currently my house gun, as I like the idea of a 17-shot 9mm +P handgun with an 8lb trigger on it being the one I grab at 3am when I'm half-awake.

Anyway, they're not pretty and not as cool as an M&P, but for a cheap semi-auto handgun they definitely get the job done.

The SD line is a very good quality pistol. I have a couple of them. I bought one new when they were crazy cheap, and then since I liked it so much, I picked up another one that was like new for a darned good price. I did install the Apex trigger spring kit into both of them which improved the trigger quite a bit.

I've still got mine, loaded, in my bedroom. Had to stop carrying it due to an issue with my back. Switched to a Shield 2.0. No plans on ditching the SD9VE, just not a great carry option for myself.

Picked one up a year or so ago, mainly to have a sample of all the Smith nines. Put an Apex spring kit in. Took the trigger from 8 plus to 6-ish.

I like it. Points very well for me. Almost like the old 39.

don't have the 9mm version, but do own a .40 and it has been 100% reliable with anything I put in the magazine.

So what if the trigger is a little stiff....if it goes boom it is because I MADE it go boom.

Randy

PS. I no longer carry a 9mm of any type....guess it blows the lungs out.
Carry a .40 S&W or .45ACP...4 is a much smaller caliber than that 9mm....
The horror of it all.

Sarcasm intended!

I know about the Apex kits, but given the home defense role of mine I probably shouldn't monkey with the factory trigger. If was purely a range gun then yes I'd install an Apex trigger.

While I said that the Apex spring kit improved the trigger quite a bit, let me be clear that it by no means made it a great trigger. The pull is now around 6 lbs. The biggest improvement came from making it a cleaner break, and a little more predictable compared to stock.

I have had several, in 9mm and 40. I really don't care for the cheesy silver slide. That's why I own an SD9.
I installed a WESBAUN spring kit along with a Galloway Carbon Fiber Boudica trigger, polished feed ramps & all moving trigger parts, and an NDZ extended slide lock lever. Trigger pull is between 4.25 and 4.5 lbs.
She's a real tack driver!
It eats whatever 9mm ammo I feed it.

I like my Sigma a lot. I bought it new when they were still new and in the product line. It was cheaper than a Glock and the S&W grip angle is identical to a 1911, making it much easier to shoot well. I did put in the Apex spring kit and it made a lot of difference. I also put in an extended barrel stop, but I can't recall who made it. Lastly, the light is the Insight Technologies M4, but I don't think they're in business any longer.

Last week my cousin bought a barely used 1979 S&W nickel plated 52-2. It came with (4) factory 15 rd. nickel plated magazines. His friend just recently passed away and his widow sold it to my cousin for $500. It even came with the factory box.
I went to his house early this (Saturday) morning to check it out. And I brought my SD9. He had a bucket (about 1K rds.) of 124 gr. reloaded FMJ 9mm. So, we shot about a 100 rds. each. Man, that 52-2 is one sweet 9mm! I told him I would trade my SD9 for it. He gave me an "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" kind of smirk/grin. :D
It was fun to take my SD9 for a walk though.

I carried a Sigma 40E for years on duty. The agency I worked for then was cheap but being in Massachusetts, got a good deal on them. I left for greener pasters and SIG-Sauer issue, but later bought a SW9VE Allied for fun with son#1. He has it with apex trigger and loves it. Really thought the SD9 was nice to but never got one.
These days it's a Shield Plus in 9mm on my hip as a retired guy.

Back in 2019 I was looking for a more powerful EDC out of concern for wild predatory animal sightings in my residential area, as well as tracks/scat in my yard, but unfortunately I didn't have any money to spend on a new handgun.

One day when I visited my LGS to buy some ammo, I saw a LNiB SW40VE in the case for $199. I came back the very next day, put it on layaway, then paid it off a couple weeks later.

It has been my Cold Weather EDC ever since.

I have a SW9F and a SD9VE. The magazines are interchangeable between both guns without a problem. Both are well made pistols and I say that as a GLOCK guy. For general consumer needs, they do the job. Trigger wise, as a revolver shooter too, I'm fine with them. The 1911 and tricked out GLOCK shooters might have a problem, but I don't

I just bought a like new SD9 in FDE. I stayed away from them because of the problems I had seen fixing Sigmas for folks. My brother bought an SD9VE a few years back and couldn't say enough good things about it. I found this gun on Armslist for $250. I drove 130 miles and bought it. Best $250 I ever spent. I love my Glock 19 but the SD9 just feels better in my hand.

I liked the comfortable grip on SD9VE owned few years ago, installed a wide take down lever. I sold it to buy M&P 9
