the laws dictate (God forbid) that you can only have one handgun, a revolver.

Two ways to go:
1. You may reload for it and all components are available.
2. You may NOT reload for it but ammo is available.

What would you have?

Me, #1 - a S&W model 29/629. You can load it for mouse to bear.
#2- a S&W model 19/66.

This one is fairly easy for me as it's a truth I'm being reminded of by my last two trips to the range.

The gun I shoot and handle the best is my custom built, blue steel Mountain Gun in 45 ACP. If I didn't (or couldn't) have it then I would pick the 625 (stainless) MG in the came chambering.

If I could only have one revolver for any reason, I'd go with my 586.

Allowed only one?

The Caliber would be .44 Special.
There are now great factory loads for it Buffalo Bore makes one as does Double Tap, & others.

I know this is the S&W forum so don't shoot me or ban me till you've read my post completely!!!!!

This is my only gun so it'll be a doozy!!!!!

The gun? a Colt Single Action Army. The Colt SAA in .44 Special is fully capable of handling the mid. .44 Special loads.

It'll be a 4-3/4" bbl, Ivory stocked one piece with a steers head on the off grip pannel as Elmer Keith had. It's going to be Color case hardened & fully engraved from the Colt Custom Shop. I'd want it from the Colt Custom Shop because I'd like it to be All Colt & because Colt is doing an exellent job with their current 3rd generation guns.

I know this is a S&W forum & I'm going to disobey the powers in power & have a S&W 329PD also. It'll be a great packing six-gun & it'll see mostly mid .44 Specials, but in Grizzly country, it'll be VERY comforting.
I just won't tell the big 0 that I have two!!!!!
Come to think of it, I just might hide a good old S&W J frame too! They are just too useful to be without.

OK I know that's not just one, but I'll bet I wouldn't be the only one to disobey the big 0!!!!!

For either scenario:

S&W 686+ 4 inch barrel Mountain Gun with tapered barrel, round butt and 7 shot cylinder.

#1: My 657-2 6½" .41 Magnum
#2: My 629-4 4" .44 Magnum

Or perhaps,
#1: My 629-4 4" .44 Magnum
#2: My 627-0 5½" .357 Magnum

Or maybe....

I'll play. My choice is an easy one, my 629 Mountain Gun. IF NO ammo for a .44 then I would have to go with my Ruger 50th Flattop in .357.
To me, both are great guns and I hope I never have to make the choice.

Reading the OP, these are the two that came to mind first

1. 686 4"
2. 617 6"

I'd be fine with either or

One? Really, Just One?

1. 686+ 4" 357/38, PC

2. 67 4" 38spcl, PC

But I'd also consider a 629 5" 44M/44S PC to replace #1 and a 617 ten shot PC to replace #2. And then . . . oh, I remember now why I almost didn't respond to this thread (1; really, you mean 1 as in not 2 or more - wow, that's just plain awful!)

Take care, (chuckle, never gonna happen, 1? Nope, 2 or 37 maybe but never 1?)

I'll vote for my 610 in both categories. I can load 10mm on the cheap and if I didn't reload I can shoot 40S&W as well.

#1 - 66-4 4"
#2 - 66-1 4"
#3 - 19-4 4"

Last resort would be either my 642 or 617 4", lot depends on the situation at the time.
