Let's Talk Pizza

As much as I hate living in NY because of all the restrictive legislation, taxes, over crowdedness, and traffic, I will say that here in NY the chain store Pizza joints like Papa Johns, Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza etc. are considered a sub standard laughing stock. If we have nothing else here in this State worth talking about, OUR PIZZA IS THE WORLD'S BEST! I have been all over and have NEVER had a better slice than right here in the People's Republik of NY!

Well, at least we're good for something!

Papa Murphy's Take-n-Bake.
I like mine a little more brown & crispy, and my wife doesn't, so we can each have it the way we want it, and the ingredients are top-shelf.
The Hut was born in my hometown, and was pretty darn good in the sixties and seventies, but the Carney boys are now long gone. Since they have gone corporate, quality has steadily declined.

Now this is a real Pizza, Stop by Savastanos if you are in the Tulsa area

It's quite possible we have more pizza joints around here than lawyers....OK not THAT many, but close! Only 3 will deliver out to my house. But within a 15 minute drive there are another handful worthy of my cash.

It's hard for me to pick my favorite ma and pa place. All do certain pizzas the best. So, it depends on what we're looking for. One has a killer white pizza with artichoke hearts, garlic and black olives. One has a great chicken wing pizza. Another uses the "old" style pepperoni and always has a chicken wing special, etc....

Or, Wegmans, our local food market, sells pre-made dough balls and we will make our own. They are especially good on a big stone I have that fits nicely on my grill. That is perhaps my favorite of all.

before I'd eat franchised so called pizza (Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Dominoes, etc.)...........I rather..."drink muddy water and sleep in a hollow log".....

the independent pizza makers around here create unmistakably delicious pizzas.....I'm enjoying my favorite right now............green pepper, onion, tomato, olive, garlic, mushroom and double cheese.................

If the cheese doesn't slide off in an endless string and burn the skin off your chin, it's not real pizza.

That hurts, where I used to work we had a Greek Pizza place not to far away, we used to go there for lunch once in a while and the cheese used to slide off like that and the grease used to drip down your arm, but it was good. Does anyone eat Pizza with a fork, my wife does, I keep telling her Pizza should be held in your hand.:D

the best local pizza comes from a place that is primarily a convenience store/gas station. followed by pizza joes...

The best pizza is found from around Boston, down to about Baltimore.
It's about mineral content found in the water used in making the crust. For decades there have been innumerable taste tests, with these areas always coming in first.
The same reason you find the good, crusty sub rolls, Italian bread, baguettes, and Kaiser rolls there.

yup

But growing up in New Orleans there was a place called Cicero's on Maple street that made a mean WOP salad and a great pizza.

I went to college in New Orleans and remember Cicero's as well.

1 large pepperoni pizza, a bottle of Crystal hot sauce, two Buds and two Barq's.

Great memories.

I knew I shouldn't have read this thread. Haven't had pizza in almost two years. Little lady can't eat it so I can't have it. :mad:I told her just eat the goodies off it and leave the crust, she say's no:(. Man what I would give for a everything including the kitchen sink pizza.

-We have a local pizza shop near me that I grew up eating. Penso's Pizza in Dover, Ohio. That is the pizza that all other are judged by for me. They must be doing it right. Been in business since 1936, don't open until 4pm, and only take cash or check. And if you don't call within about 30 minutes of them opening, you're usually looking at an hour wait to get your pizza. Still worth every delicious bite!

L8R,
Matt

We have a few great local places, chain pizza never. The Poppa John guy hates us so I don't give him any $. Gonna order an xtra large right now as I been good all week ( I've eaten my ration of my wife's Kale chips and the 6906 almost fits comfortably IWB again). Joe

celiac disease?

I don't like ANYTHING from Chitcago, much less that weird doughy pie/casserole dish they call pizza.

New Yuck isn't much better, but I love a slice of NY style pizza.

Sadly around here, the best pizza comes from a mini mart, Casey's.

My favorite pizza chain pizza is Pizza Hut.
I guess it's at least pizza, more or less, something you can't say of Dominoes. Still, I never eat there and don't like their pizza.

When I wanted to eat bad pizza, I went to Ce Ce's. It was bad, but unlike Pizza Hut, it was all cheap and all you could eat. Unfortunately, the one close to me closed, and they're not worth driving any distance for.

Donato's around here used to be good. The one up the road from me steadily went downhill then closed.

My favorite pizza in NE Ohio is Angelo's on Madison in Lakewood. They've got great pizza. Not cheap though.

The best pizza I've ever had came from a place in Manhattan, Kansas. Those of us who'd had it during ROTC advanced camp, literally fought over the privilege of driving from Fulton, Missouri to Ft. Riley to return a friend's lost keys, just for the opportunity to have some.

I haven't tried the "new" Dominos
The last two Dominoe's pizzas I had made me as sick as if I'd drunk water out of a Korean rice paddy. That was over ten years ago and I haven't had one since. Don't plan to have another in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, Pizza Hut is bad pizza. Dominoe's isn't pizza AT ALL, just mouse feces on layered cardboard, ketchup and candle wax.

Did they have to deliberately have to deform that pizza to fit into an EZ Bake Oven or what?:eek::D;)

Actually, I'd give that thing a try in a heart beat!:)

That is actually the best pizza I have ever had. Well I have had better in Chicago but I try to not admit that I have ever been there, lol.

You guys with that "deep dish" stuff give me a good chuckle.

Deep dish isn't pizza.

That's a simple fact, no need to debate it.

That's like trying to call a blueberry pie a pizza just because it's round with triangular slices...

You need to be able to fold the slice in half...

Oh, and square.... Barely pizza
