Leupold scope

I just picked up a classic dx with a leupold vari x 2.5 to 8x32 the scope is silver and in like new cond. with butler creek flip up covers. I don't want the scope so i'v decided to sell it. Haw much should I ask for it?

My experience with selling used like-new condition scopes (Leupold only) has been disappointing. I've priced them at 1/2 of listed discount prices and still they do not sell. It's a mystery to me.

I posted a Leupold 4x pistol scope for sale on two forums, and at gun shows for $175. These are listed at Midway USA for $350.

I still have it.

What type Vari-X: I, II, III?
I have bought used Leupold's in the past, the factory covers their Lifetime Warranty no matter how many people have owner the scope.

Sounds like one of the older pistol scopes.

To sell it you need to find someone who wants a 2.5-8 pistol scope, or maybe someone who has a scout rifle with a mount in front of the receiver.

Spend some time on Gunbroker.com and look at what used Leupold scopes sell for. They are excellent scopes and the factory warranty covers all of them regardless of age and ownership.

Usually a used Leupold is just as good as a new one. And if it has problems the factory will fix it.

However they do not resale at very high prices. A good thing for folks like me.

I looked in the completed auctions on gunbroker. One silver one sold for $375.00 on 2/13/2012, another one (blue with base & rings) sold for $316.00 on 2/11/2012. FWIW, Bud's is currently selling this model NIB for $549.99.

A few that were listed at lower prices got no bids.

If you use an online auction, be prepared to wait for a few weeks or months for a sale, until a buyer comes along. Gunbroker does not charge for listing or relisting items, and you can set your auction to automatically relist if the item doesn't sell.
