Say guys,

Found a good Lew Horton 24-3 .44 Spl. 3 inch barrel, very good condition.

Does $650 sound to high?

Thanks

No but I could if I wanted to!!!

I'll see what can be done. I need it like a hole in the head!

It's a horrible deal. Would you mind if I looked at it before some unknowing sucker paid that terrible price tag for it? I just want to see it in person first so if you could please tell me where it is...

;)

Just go buy it. If you suffer buyer's remorse, you can sell it here in minutes for $200 more. If you wanted $350 more you might have to wait half an hour.

You mean it really is worth that much.

Has a thin barrel, round butt, S&W combat wood grips? Blued? I think it had a red insert front sight?

I mean it looked nice, They had also a 57-1 or 2 in .41 magnum (4 inch bbl) but it had some wear marks on the top strap on one side for $695. Also a 1917 S&W .45, U.S. Army, but that one was $895.

Dang.... I'll have to go buy there (I mean by there) and look it over one more time.

Say, will it have any 'Lew Horten' stamp or anything like that?

I paid a thousand for a Lew Horton 24-3 NIB three years ago. Since then the demand has continued to rise. Fair price for a 24-3 by itself in high condition (not perfect, but pretty nice) has got to be at least $800-850.

It won't say Lew Horton on it. You can only tell it was part of a LH order by the serial number. Most LH guns had AEL or AEM serial numbers, but a few started with AEJ. There is another 24-3 thread that started a couple of years back but was active again just a couple of days ago. Look for that one. There is lots of good information about what determines LH status and whether it even matters that much.

Again, with price at $650 I'd be a buyer. The other prices you mentioned for the other guns are not unreasonable, but not something I would rush to take advantage of.

Lew Horton ordered 5000 from S&W, they could not sell the whole run of the 24-3's, sent back the remaining 1000 or so and S&W distributed the rest through their distribution stores. So some of the serial numbers reflect that they went through Lew Horton and some through S&W, Mine SN starting with ALAXXXX went through S&W, But the SKU number on my box reflects that it was made for Lew Horton. I talk to several Lew Horton reps and S&W reps to confrim this. So either way you can say its a Lew Horton, they either come in S&W box or Lew Horton Box.

Thanks guys. I'll go by the pawn shop tomorrow and check it out again.

Yes I thought the others were ok prices but I also really liked the .44.

I presume I can handload it to about 1000 fps for a 240 but no farther!

I have a 625, 3 inch .45 ACP and I use .45 Supers all the time in it. And my 4 inch 629-2 (or -3, can't remember) I do load 240s at 1000 with magnum brass.

Got it.

AEJ is the start of the serial number.

Will play with it this afternoon. Sadly $703, tax included, was the price (ok, I'm cheap.)

You can call Lew Horton 508-366-7400 , give them you SN and they can tell you if it went through them or S&W ,

Did it come with box? Lew Horton box? S&W box?

It does'nt matter value wise.

I have one[Lew Horton 3" .44 SPL] NIB and another with old meprolite night sights[my old night stand gun] I would trade for your 625 3" ACP. PM me if interested.Nick

Well gang, I shot it with Winchester 'cowboy' loads.

10 yards, slow fire, two handed. Target had a little red button in the middle. 5 shots went into one ragged hole in the bottom half of the red button. But being me, I screwed up one shot and it landed about 2 inches high. Bummer.

But I have LOTS of .44 Spl. brass and about a thousand 240gr LSW as well as a hundred 240 gr. Speer half jacketed LSWHPs. I'll have no problem with ammo for a while.

Oh yea, I'll keep it.

And sorry smokey, but I most defiantly will keep my 625. I only have three N frames and these are all keepers.

You better buy it quick. I would borrow money to buy a minty one at $650! I paid $925 for mine, $650 is a steal.....

Ok. Here is one.

Oh well, I made it to small.

Try later!
