I just saw said gun at a gunstore, $870. The gold wash on the ejector rod, cylinder thumb latch, hammer and trigger mean nothing to me, though pretty, but it also has a non-fluted cylinder, which I think looks really cool on the 29. I have a 629 with 3" barrel, unfluted cylinder, and lanyard ring, the "Trail Boss," that I think looks and is WAAAY cool.
I'm sure the gold will rub away rather quickly.
The blue finish is very nice, on a par, I think, with my Performance Center 27.
It has a 4" barrel and is "One of Two Hundred." Seems like a good buy. I checked the S&W site and did not see ANY 29s listed, only 629s, so that seems to also support the price.
Any significant criticisms of it? I don't care one way or the other about the internal lock. I've never had a problem with them, don't even bother to carry the key anymore, even backpacking.
If I get it I'll post pix.

Guess I didn't look far enough on the S&W site. Under their "Classic" line they list a 29 with 4" barrel for $969. Nice, but nothing special.

WOW! That titanium nitride sounds nice, bobf. The Lew Horton website calls it "gold" on the 29. It would have been done, I suppose, by LH or whoever they might contract to. I've no idea. The price still makes it look like a buy, in any case. Years ago I bought a Colt SSA 125th anniversary model with "gold" on the hammer, grip frame and trigger. I used it for Cowboy shooting and it rubbed off the trigger and grip frame rather quickly. I figured it was just wash, not plating. I'm glad I paid a "used gun" price for it. Otherwise, excellent Colt quality.

I have a 19 with wash on it, it didn't stay very well.
Lew Horton still has a small pic on their website, the 29s were priced at $1119.95 retail. They have been sold out for some time. I believe mine was priced close to the price of the one you saw.

I'm going to jump on it. I checked and the store still has it. I asked them to hold it for me. A closer store said they couldn't get it, so apparently LH no longer has any.
I have a beautiful 17-3, 6" barrel, Patridge front sight. The finish is excellent, with a modest turn ring. Can't imagine why people buy such a wonderful gun and then don't shoot it. Any way, the finish on the ejector rod is gone, except for the knurled knob; bare metal. The back and front grip straps are flawless. None of my guns, even ones I used in my employment, have lost ALL the finish on the ejector rod. So, I'm sure the gold on this LH29 ejector rod will go fast.

I like the "Gold" finish, yes it is Titanium Nitride... I had mine done by titaniumgun.com out in CA... they were fast and cheap. $95 for my barrel and $15 for my trigger... the turnaround time was like a week.
