I got this on a trade. I haven't got the chance to shoot it. Aside from what I assume are aftermarket stocks, it was sent to magnaport and ported (included receipt for $275 for the ports). It is in excellent shape, with the original box. The recall isn't an issue, the box is stamped. Other than the stocks, I think I did ok. I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not, It wasn't what I was looking for, but it's growing on me.
Any opinions on how the after market stocks and magnaports effect the value would be appreciated. -Mike

I was surprised how comfortable they are. They fit my hand nice. But I believe all of them in this configuration came from the factory with Combat stocks. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the magaporting cuts down on the "collectibility" value but doesn't hurt the "shootability" value. I would be willing to buy but wouldn't pay a premium for it over a standard Lew Horton version. Last Lew Horton I saw had an asking price of $1099 (without box but with correct stocks). I would expect to see yours priced about the same and where I shop would be trying to buy it somewhere between $800 and $1000. Nice gun, enjoy.

IT LOOKS LIKE A NICE CLEAN PRE-LOCK GUN. THE MAGNA-PORT AND GRIPS DESTROY COLLECTOR VALUE.....

DESPITE THE FACT THAT I AM NOT A COLLECTOR, THE MAGNA-PORT, AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE LAMINATE STOCKS, DO NOT APPEAL TO ME EITHER.......

IF I WAS IN THE MARKET, I WOULD SAVE MY MONEY FOR A CLEAN, UNMODIFIED EXAMPLE. A STOCK SWAP IS NO BIGGIE, BUT THE MAGNA-PORTING CAN'T BE REVERSED......

IMHO, ITS NOT WORTH A BIG PREMIUM. IF YOU LIKE THE GUN, JUST SHOOT THE SNOT OUT OF IT ! ! !

Consider the fact that there are probably more "gun buyers" than collectors, the 44 special is a caliber that is popular at the moment. The Lew Horton model IMHO is the best.
Yours has all the goodies a shooter/ buyer would want. Grip and mods are all a matter of preference. I wouldn't let either of those factors degrade the fact that you have a quality piece.

Those stocks sure look like Ahrends Round Butt Finger Groove models. If that's what they are, then they are definitely not laminate. Given the modifications, I don't believe you're looking at top-grade collectability. You are looking at a wonderful packing revolver that should be a great shooter.

Loks like a really nice, clean firearm. I like the 44 Special. I hope you enjoy it. Sure looks nice !!

That'll make a great shooter for sure. Someone apparently had more money than sense Magnaporting a 44 spl. I just had my 3" 24-3 out Sat and there's no need for the ports. That's why you shoot specials, right? Shoot it and enjoy it, they're great at the range and if you don't mind the weight, a great carry/sd gun.

They're nice guns, and mine is sitting very happy as we speak. As for my opinion on the OP's question, I'd say your gun would be worth About $1100 or so in original condition with the box. With the factory grips missing I'd deduct about $250 or so, and the porting would also detract from the value. So my WAG would be a current value of around $650 or so. Some people might find the porting to be a good thing so maybe go back up to $800 or so. Funny thing is that there are quite a few people who are willing to bid on the non mint guns which makes the prices generally higher than one might think. Either way, it's a nice gun, and don't get rid of it until you shoot it a bunch...
