sn#HPN0030 spec. ord.5331 product code 170072 model 629 cal. 44
barrel 6" FN S stock RB features Hunter

The Spec. Ord. number dates it to.....

December 27, 1995.

I have not seen that specific Product Code or serial number prefix before. So it's not common. I have seen similar M629's from that same Era.

The Performance Center made a half dozen "Hunter" variations that each differed in small details. Porting, cylinder flutes, scope ring cuts, weights, sights....like that. Lew Horton had their hand in many of them (not all). Each variation had a unique p.c. and s/n prefix.

Post the L.H. letter when you get it. I'm very interested in what it will contain. The mid to late '90's was the pinical of the Performance Center's existence. You got one of the best revolves ever made.

Thank you for your interest in Lew Horton Distributing. Your Smith & Wesson
Performance Center Model 629 Hunter III (S&W #170072), serial number HNP0030,
is indeed a Lew Horton Special Edition. This model was unique in the market place
at that time. It was fitted with a six inch slab sided barrel that had an integral variable
weight system. The barrel had an integral Weaver style scope mount. This run was
different from the other PC 629 Hunters in that it was NOT Mag-Na-Ported. As with all
Performance Center revolvers of that era, the cylinder edges were beveled and the
charge holes chamfered. The action was hand tuned by the craftsmen in the Performance
Center. This gun is one of several different variations of the PC 629 Hunter that we did
over the years.
This gun is one of 52 units produced in that configuration. This Model 629 Hunter III
was manufactured by Smith & Wesson and delivered to Lew Horton Distributing
in 1995. Your gun was shipped to Lew Horton’s in December of 1995.
This Lew Horton Special Edition is listed on page 453 of the Standard Catalog of
Smith & Wesoon, 4th Edition.
Best of luck!
