Found a new to me local gun shop, I need to get out more, and questioned him on doing transfers-- will do, charge was more than reasonable, but cautioned me he would not deal with some place called Buds Gun Shop. Ok, his store his rules, and I never heard of them anyway. Anyone here have a problem with them?? THANKS!! PM me if it is too bad to post, if you will :)

I'm looking for feedback on Grab A Gun also. I'll let you know if someone gives me a real experience with them. I have no faith in these site reviews when the site has control over what has been posted.

I've bought a pistol and a flashlight from GAG. No problems. The pistol was bought last fall on their "lay-a-way" plan. I did have to call them a second time after the final payoff but they shipped to my FFL quickly.

I just received the flashlight a couple of days ago. Took about 4-5 days from the time I ordered to the time I received. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from GAG again.

I've dealt with them both no problem for me. Buds was high on the handgun I wanted but at the time he was the only one that had it, capitalism works. GAG only bought some magazines and no problem there.

Only one transaction with no problems. They are big so you might want ti bird dog the deal. Don't get the GAG reference.

Just picked up a rifle from Grabagun, ordered it on Wed. picked it up at my FFL on Saterday. Vary smooth and would do business again with GAG, and only 15 bucks for my FFL. To the op the lgs can't compete with bud's prices so he refuses to do there transfer's is my guess. I have had all good experiences with CDNN, Bud's, and Grabagun.

Bud's is one of the biggest online presences out there. I purchased a 40 Shield & a Bushmaster AR from them without any problems. The only downside is, if they are really busy, & they usually are, it takes a while for them to get stuff shipped out. I'm not sure why your LGS would have a problem dealing with them.

Bud's became high profile a year or so ago when they offered a large quantity of police trade-in Model-10's. The condition of these guns ranged from good to pathetic. Buyer feedback for the good guns was glowing. Feedback for the beaters was downright hostile. I've never dealt with the firm, but reading all of the feedback leads me to believe that they are a typical gun shop who try to please, but sadly, you can't please everybody.

Your LGS hates Bud's because they sell SOoooooo many guns!

I've bought a few from them. They, and other online stores not mentioned, are fine to deal with. But you have to have a local FFL do the transfer. And the LGS's are 'losing' sales to the online stores - so they have a case of 'sour grapes'.

Bud's has products it sells for less than some LGSs can purchase them from their own distributors. That can prompt the kind of refusal in the OP.

I've found Bud's to be very professional and easy to deal with.

I thought of that, but if the OP isn't buying the gun from his LGS, what difference could it make to his LGS where he buys the gun? The OP infers that his LGS is willing to do transfers from anybody but Bud's.

Have bought at least half a dozen firearms each from Buds and Grabagun. They have great selection and great prices; something that irks a lot of smaller stores which can't compete with their prices.

I've purchased from Bud's twice and I've made 6 purchases from GAG (Grabagun). I like GAG. They have very competitive prices and a flat rate shipping of $5.99 per gun. Even with my FFL transfer fees, I usually beat LGS and other online shops.

I also like the 90 day layaway option at GAG, I've used it several times, though it does add a $20 fee to the purchase. They aren't the fastest to get an order shipped out, but that isn't enough to push me away.

For my money, GAG is one of the best online sellers. I'll definitely continue to use them.

As for Bud's, they're okay, but I've never liked their two-tier pricing cash vs credit on their products. GAG doesn't do that.

Bud's vs LGS

You could ask him why. It might be informative for all of us. Maybe the best way to do this is to run a transfer of your next purchase through the LGS and just casually inquire about his relationship with Bud's.

Some gun stores have online shopping using Davidsons. They do not want to compete with large volume sites like Bud's.

As a courtesy to the store that I deal with, I check their price first and if it is not too much more, I will buy from them. I normally use the local store for transfers for older guns that I buy from gunbroker like the 1969 vintage .357 3-screw Blackhawk that I recently bought. The store gets my business for new stuff and has no problem when I buy an older gun online.

It's a 2-way street. My LGS was listed by Bud's as approved the first gun I bought and not the second time. Quien sabbe? Bud's undersells some shops because they can get in volume, etc, etc. So they are competitive. Some dealers don't like that. One sale with Bud's took a few days, the other a couple of weeks.

^^^^^^^ +1 for this ^^^^^^^

I always give a LGS the opportunity to get me out the door at equal to or maybe 5% or so over the cost of doing business with an on-line retailer. It only makes sense; these small shops have a tough time competing with the giant retailers on new gun prices. If they are going to have to stay in business by doing a lot of transfers instead of selling a lot of guns, look for transfer prices to be higher.

So - if I am looking at a $500 handgun (shipping included) from an on-line retailer & it will cost me ~$25 +tax ($26.63 in my neck of the woods) to have it transferred, I'll give a LGS the business if I can get it for $553 or so out the door (OTD). Considering that includes sales tax, that would be a retail price of ~$520. That, to me, is a good price to pay to be able to go to a local brick & mortar LGS, discuss the purchase, handle the gun I want to buy, & foster a relationship with a local business.

Never ordered a gun from the web. I have bought all from my local stores and one pawn shop. Problem with that is BUD'S is one of my local shops. So I don't really know what it is like to have to buy from online.

We call our LGS Buds South!:D

No problem with Buds, my guy will take their transfers all day,

Folks come it and see he has the same gun for less, and now has to pay a transfer fee and could have bought it right there and walked out!:)

When the Mosins were hot, he was getting so many transfers from Buds and he had racks of them, again for less than Buds!

Buds sells so many guns that under their LEO discount they can not sell S&W guns in Florida. So many retired LEOS in FL.
Not their rule but SW cut them off saying they hurt the Fl dealers (some dealer whined I guess)

I have never heard of any problems with Bud's. The probable reason is Bud's "under-prices" everyone else, and most dealers don't like to accept any transfers from them if they sell the same merchandise.

I have purchased three handguns and my son has purchased two handguns from Bud's. No issues on any of the transactions.

Your LGS must have had issues somewhere in the past! OR heard of a guy who's friend had a problem.

But, like you said; it is his store!!

I really like my LGS, but their outrageous $100 transfer fee is another reason that I just do not buy online. BUds offerings often look good to me.

An old song comes to mind: "My mama told me, You better shop around"!
