The Library of Congress has digitized over 175,000 photos from the Farm Security Administration.

The images include photos from Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and Arthur Rothstein among others. The pictures document American life from the years 1935 through 1944 from all across the country. I have vivid memories of some of these photos and the stark beauty of the black and white images.

The collection can be filtered any number of ways, including by state, photographer and by subject matter.

The link is:

Loc.gov

From the main LOC page select "Prints & Photographs" then from the "Featured Collections" tab click on "Farm Security Aministration/Office of War Preparation Black and -White Negatives" link.

The pictures are a vivid and moving portrait of America in that era.

Enjoy!

I saw the Russell Lee Pietown, NM photos down at the NM Farm and Ranch Musceum.
I found them to be very powerful and they touched me deeply.
