Life's Simple Pleasures

I haven't had a chance to indulge in it for quite some time, but I really used to enjoy a long, lazy soak in a nice warm tub. I'd usually do it equipped with my current book and a beverage, usually coffee, tea, iced tea, cola, or ginger ale. I started doing it when assigned in Germany, taking advantage of those big European tubs. During our last two stateside assignments, Ft. Meade and Ft. Drum, I used to try to get in one session each weekend when I drove to our farm to fix up the old 1880 farmhouse. Used the big claw-footed iron tub in the upstairs bathroom. When I was first retired, I used to time my soak with the little ones' naps. I enjoyed the experience all the more as I reflected back on two diametrically opposed experiences: playing in the tub as a kid and all those years of S,S,&S and crashing out of the barracks for reveille.
poor man's hot tub, with soap:)

resting without hurting anywhere
running a rack
walking two friends' GSD: we both look forward to it
throwing darts with friends
going fishing at the right time, but most any time will do
birds of prey flying
owl evening hunting the same spot
an almost perfect bullseye first shot
living a thankful life and feeling blessed

Cherries; big, fat dark, USA grown. 3rd week of June until about now. Last night's batch was grown in Wa state. I eat enough and quit just before bellyache. From now on they'll come from Canada-very little taste. Forget "jet fresh from South America" altogether. Joe

Absolutely.
Why buy foreign when the US grows some of the best crops going.
I understand that some of the best are shipped to other countries, farmers have to make a profit too, but the seasonal items are still great.

The woods line surrounding my house are full of wild Tall Bush Blueberries. From about the first of June to the middle of july, the bushes are loaded with berries. I can't go to the mailbox, walk the dog, or mow the grass without ending up with a blue tongue. The Tall Bush berries are not big, fat and tasteless like the commercial berries, they are small and taste great.

Shooting with my grandson every weekend.
I'm his shooting coach, Papa safety, safety, and more safety coach (y)
It was a good day shooting with the grandson, we shot several 22lr rifles.
He kept asking Papa when are we going to shoot the AR15? :p haha
So we shot the AR15, he's a really good shot with the Colt AR15A2 for being 7 years old. Here's one of his 25 yd. 5 shot group using factory iron sights.

Picture of our grandson on w/ the Colt AR15
He's not actually shooting here, I wanted some pictures without his shooting glasses on.
This was just before shooting the AR.

Corn on the cob - ...
I was surprised to learn that corn on the cob with nothing at all on it tastes great.

As a kid, we always had it with butter and salt. Some years ago, my wife, when I was trying to lose weight, started serving it plain. It's actually great that way, and even after losing weight we have continued to eat it that way.

I'm gonna try that 180° trick.

After 13 years living in an apartment with 30 neighbors and no outside space that was ours

With no one to bother me but the neighbor's cow (who is positive I walked out there to feed her something) and not hearing any man made sounds is a huge simple pleasure

Watching the sun go down behind the mountains.

Getting in a treestand in total darkness and watching the woods wake up on a crisp October morning.
I worked nights for the majority of my work life. dawn became my favorite time of day. I used to listen to the birds wake up at 3 AM or so.
