After hundreds of rounds, I suddenly today started getting light primer strikes and failure to fire on every first round out of the magazine and some first and second rounds. After that, everything is flawless until the magazines are empty.
The rifle was cleaned well before going to the range.
This issue happens on every magazine. Round goes easily into battery when checked by hand and also appears to completely close the bolt with the bolt release. I use exclusively CCI Tactical with never a problem. I tried Federal 525 bulk pack and had the same issue.
S&W was kind enough to send me a new firing pin, spring and roll pin free of charge.
Anybody ever seen this happen with your 15-22? It's the newer model rifle and I love shooting it. Lots of fun.
Thanks,
AA

The chamber may have a build up of wax or carbon that is keeping the rounds from seating completely. I clean mine with a chamber mop soaked in brake cleaner followed by one trip with a bore snake.
Also, being the first rounds, the magazine spring may be pushing the following rounds up too tight or the magazines may be worn and allowing the rounds to ride too high and drag.
Try a new magazine and see if the problem goes away. With heavy use, magazines are consumables.

Is it happening with the new parts?

Yes, new S&W magazines. Never happened with the original mags or the first four extra ones I bought. Just the last four maga. I can see absolutely no differance in the mags.
I cleaned everything completely and will try again. I just couldn't see why the first round was affected.

If the rifle functions flawlessly with the older magazines still and exhibit the problem with the new ones it certainly sounds like a magazine problem.

Have you disassembled the magazines in question? I would do that and do a good inspection.
